    Just arrived from Middle Earth...

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by Morgoth_69, Nov 15, 2019.

    Greetings!

My name is André and I'm from Portugal. A small country located in the southwest of Europe, with a very rich historical past. For quite some time I have been looking for a quality forum where my thoughts about literature could be expressed.

I love writing short stories on various topics, however, fantasy is my favourite theme. Tolkien is a great reference, and all his literary work is a dazzle for my eyes.

One of my goals with this inscription is to get the collaboration of other fantasy lovers for a project. I noticed that there is a place in this forum for such conversations, but as it will take time to get the necessary requirements (90 days, 100 posts), I leave here the suggestion (if possible). Anyway, if any moderator can advise me on the best way to talk about these ideas, I'd appreciate it.

Thank you all for your attention.

Welcome Morgoth! I love Portugal so much that I married a girl from Braga. I hope to read some of your work soon.

Hello André, and welcome to the forum! I'm one of the moderators here, so if you encounter any difficulties getting settled in, feel free to contact me via a 'conversation.' Just click my owl avatar and follow the signs.

I see you have already read some of our rules, as you know about the collaboration requirement. If you haven't already done so, please also check out these two links:

    New Member Quick Start

    Forum Rules

I know of a few other members here who are from Portugal, including one who recently did a beta reading of my novel ...and did a cracking job of it as well. I was astounded at her level of English expertise. Makes me feel quite embarrassed that I only know one language.

As for Fantasy, I think that's probably the most popular genre here on the forum, so you will find lots of companionship.

You asked for a moderator's advice on how to talk about Fantasy projects. As you are some way from fulfilling your collaboration requirements, you'll need to be patient on that score. The reason we have these requirements is to prevent people joining the forum simply to find a collaborating partner, and then are never seen again. This is a community, and we try to foster the community spirit across all the different genres and threads here. So probably your best way 'in' is simply to read over the threads that interest you, make contributions to the threads. Your comments will be connected to your forum name, and people will begin to know what you are like. AND, what would REALLY be appreciated, is if you can offer helpful critiques in our Workshop area for people who have put their work up for feedback. People will get to know you that way as well, and will be most willing to help you when your turn comes.

Also, if you write short stories, poetry or flash fiction you are welcome to enter our contests at any stage. (Entries are anonymous, but after the voting is finished, the writers are revealed.) Feel free to read the entries that are currently on display, and vote for your favourites, when the time comes to vote. I'm a regular voter, although I never enter the contests. However, it's fun to see what other people produce.

So ....take your time to get to know us, and let us get to know you. Feel free to tell us more, here on this thread, about the projects you are working on or hope to be woeking on. The more we know, the more interested we will be. You aren't allowed to post your actual work here (or anywhere but the Workshop) but you can certainly tell us about your plans.

Anyway, I hope to see you around the threads, and I also hope you have fun getting started here.

    Cheers, Jan

That's very nice to know. Portuguese women's tend to be very independent and self sustained.

I'm hoping to show some words soon enough. Thanks for the welcoming.

Awesome! I would love to share some thoughts with them.

Yes, I understand why these rules are important. Patience is a virtue. I was looking for a place to interact with people like me. This forum is perfect!

One of my recent undertakings is to work with a writing partner on a fantasy project. Two heads always think better than one!

I intend to develop a plot with two different visions of a single conflict. Both of them in the first person POV and portraying two main characters who would fight each other. Trying to split the opinion of the readers.

    Thanks for the advices.

Welcome, Morgoth. I, too, am a Tolkien fanatic. Not ashamed to say I've memorised most of the songs and poems!

I root for Fingolfin though... ;)

Hi, Teladan, your words are much appreciated.

Fingolfin is one of Tolkien strongest characters, but, I have this thing with antagonists. Though, Túrin Turambar is my favorite. I absolutely love The Children of Húrin. Christopher Tolkien did a great job putting all the pieces together.

Are you simply looking for a collab partner or what's your question regarding collabs? I'm unclear on what sorta help you're looking for. Have you done collabs before? Is this going to be a novel, or something else?

Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy the antagonists/anti-heroes too. I even like Eol. My name, by the way, is composed of 'Tel' and 'Adan'. Telperion-Man.

    Enjoy the forum.

    Hello, Mcck.

My final intention is to develop a fantasy novel, yes. Nothing rushed. A project with time to become something serious that gives pleasure to those working on it.

I've made collaborations before (mostly blogs) but nothing with this level. The primary goal is to find someone with a similar taste for fantasy and writing, so that we can evolve and share experiences.

Oh, great! It's necessary a huge level of knowledge and imagination to create such beautiful languages like Tolkien did.

    Hi guys,

This is my very first post as well. I must say it's great to see there are obviously some Tolkien fans here! I'm a massive fan of the good professor myself.

I'm currently writing my first novel, which is a satirical romantic comedy (so very un-Tolkien!).
Nevertheless, feel free to PM me if you'd like to discuss the great man and his work.
