    Female Heroes/Villains and Children...

Discussion in 'Fantasy' started by Marthix2016, Nov 20, 2019.

Why does almost every female hero or villain out there have to eventually wind up having children at the end of a story or movie? Not trying to shame parents or anything, but hasn't society grasped that no all women want children...that it's perfectly ok and normal for a woman not to want kids? Sorry but I'm just tired of reading about all these female heroes and villains and they almost always end up surviving and having kids at the end. This is their sort of "Happily Ever After". Some women weren't meant have kids. I love reading about Single women who can stand on their own and prove they don't need a man to be strong and be a leader. I'm not all into relationships necessarily. I love career-driven women who put their career before family (aka raising kids). It's hard to name any female characters that break the social stereotype. Jyn Erso from Star Wars is an excellent example of a single woman who sacrificed her life for a greater cause; she never had any children and I don't think she'd want them anyways with her PTSD. Another good example is Trilla Suduri from Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Very intimidating antagonist yet you feel for her and she gets slayed by Darth Vader in the end for failing her mission.

Anyone have thoughts on women in literature or movies today? I just feel like women are STILL expected to raise a family and such in their life based on what we still see in movies. I would love to see for once a woman whose "Happily Ever After" is career-based or fighting for her people in the future.
