Avid reader, novice writer here. I've been dabbling in writing a little bit for a while now, but only recently have I decided to get "serious" about it and start writing actual, coherent short stories to post online or share with friends. So far I've enjoyed a fairly positive response, but obviously, I have a lot to learn yet. My goal is to eventually start writing full-size novels, if I get that far. I mostly read science fiction and some fantasy, so naturally, that's mostly what I'm writing. I stumbled into this website looking for a community where I can discuss writing and share my work, but of course, I have to meet the 20-post requirement first. Guess I'll have to manage. Not sure what else to put here. Looking forward to interacting with you guys.
Hello PsiLens! Welcome! This is a neat community, a lot of diverse people here to offer you different opinions and thoughts.
Nice to meet you! I'm EFMingo, one of the new moderators here at the forums. Don't be shy about contacting me or one of the other active mods (jannert, big soft moose, and Iain Aschendale at the moment) if you have any questions or problems. It seems you're a bit ahead of the game and read some of the forum rules, seeing that you already know the 20 post rule. Mind you, 14 days membership, and the ever important 2 to 1 critiques to workshop entries rules are also in place as well. Ive placed links here for quick reference if you need it: New Member Quick Start and Forum Rules. You will find that the time and posts go by quick, and reviewing others work can be an eye opener to errors you may even find in your own writing. Science fiction reading and writing hits me on a personal level. I strive to at some point be a published science fiction novelist, and have been using many of the resources and advice from members here to deepen and develop my understanding of solid science fiction work. There are many members from very different Scientific back grounds that can offer factual evidence and logic to questions and debate over story logic issues and concerns in writing these types of works. I hope I, and the others who do this type of writing, can help you in your growth as a science fiction writer, and I'm excited hear what you can bring to the table here as well. Glad to have you on board here, and hope to see you around helping others on the different sections of this site.
Proud to report I've read both of those already, pretty much the first thing I did after creating my account.
Thanks! It's one of those things that randomly pop up in your head one day and initially, you dismiss them as silly until you suddenly realize they're kinda clever.
