A rechargeable LED headtorch for cycling to work in the mornings. A work colleague has one and this thing shines like the sun! Only£9.00 too!

This Monday I got cataract surgery on my right eye. Anybody who says the U. S. medical system is lacking has no concept of the rigmarole I went through to get this done. Ye gods. A team of at least eight or ten doctors, nurses, and orderlies; repeated questions about my drug allergies and which eye was getting done; heart monitor, IV drip with a sedative, and several kinds of numbing drops; gown, gurney, operating room; a fancy machine to measure my eyeball as the surgeon went along; recovery room time and strict instructions about physical activity and not driving or cooking for 24 hours afterwards--- it was a far cry from 1995 when I had RK surgery and it was just my surgeon and a nurse and it all happened in a chair in his office in New Jersey, and he sent me home via public transport thereafter.

I have no idea what the copays will be; I got a phone message from a lady at the billing office today when I was at school but got home too late to call her back. Hope it's just more insurance numbers she wants. It'd be a good joke on me if there was a problem with the coverage.

Because of the RK my new vision will come in only gradually. According to my surgeon at my post-op checkup yesterday, the right eye is now 20/100. Or it was then; I think it's sharper today.

The biggest difference so far is finding out I've been seeing everything slightly yellow. Now, I look at something white with my right eye, and it looks, well, white. Shut the right eye and look at the same object with my uncorrected left, and I seem to be looking at it through a glass of pale piss.

Good grief. My laundry has been getting cleaner than I thought. Who knew?

This coming Monday I get to go through the whole process all over again for the left eye. Seems like overkill to me, but if that's the way they have to do it . . . .

Bought a khaki-colored "safari vest," with lots of pockets, some zippered, some not. I get tired of trying to find a way to carry my phone, and this way I can carry it, and my earphones, and a pen, and whatever, and always have room for more, like even a small notebook. Meant for hiking and such, but I like to wear it most days. The wife says it looks good, but also suggested it's something that "old guys" do. Well. I am retired now, only shave when I remember or am reminded, so, I guess I fit in that category; I was never much for style anyway, so I'm happy with it. Only downside, sometimes I forget what pocket holds what

My Christmas present. Specially purchased in a sage green, as green is one of my favourite colours. :) You may recognise the hypnotic eyes on the wallpaper...they belong to the gift giver: our very own CT. :friend:

Awesome, @Catrin Lewis. I had the same thing two weeks ago - I had gone completely blind in my right eye. I'm still waiting for a date for the left eye to be done, I'm told they usually wait 12 weeks for the one that's been done to settle down. The imbalance in my vision does cause a few problems.

I had exactly the same rigmarole, but there were only two doctors during the actual surgery. I didn't have to change into a gown either.

I have some eyedrops to administer for the next six weeks, but I had my post-op followup last week, and some laser surgery in the same eye to deal with a detached area of my retina, but other than that, everything is wonderfully clear. No need for glasses for distance in that eye anymore.

The "glass of pale piss" is a great description. The funky thing is when you hold your hand up in front of your nose and separate your vision into "clear" and "pale piss" halves.

I am trying to keep these type of posts to a minimum but I recently got some free bath and body works stuff but traded one item for some chicken on fries. I was trying out an iOS app which gave me the bath and body works gift card. I used it to buy two items and traded one to my boss for a chicken and fries. I did keep a body wash for me as I needed one.

Well, yes. That they have "Picard" was merely the final straw.

The annoying thing is that I didn't know that they had it until I went there for ordering something. I don't think media companies do themselves a favour with all this "exclusive" content, in particular when it's not easy to find out where a particular content is shown (like for me, in a country NOT the USA.)

This may actually be in violation of Sherman Antitrust laws. Fingers crossed, some studios may be forced to divest themselves of their distribution platforms in the future.

Just to clarify: I just opened the Amazon web page. There's the banner at the top that just showed Sir Patrick's face with "Picard". I didn't need to buy anything.

The thing is, I know a show exists. I know where it is shown in the USA. Social media let me know. But which service or TV channel will show it, legally, here in Germany? When? It's surprisingly often not findable, even when you google it. You might expect that the distributors advertise it more broadly, but frequently they don't. In particular, no one tells you if they will have the original language version (mostly English, that is, which I prefer), or the German dub only, unless it's actually available, and you check ON the streaming service, AFTER you already subscribed to it. (It's a mystery to me why offering the German dub only even exists in this day and age.)

Wife brought me books to help the long stay in prison the house. She knows my reading preferences....how dare she pay attention to such trivial things! The horror of having my inner sanctum of mental whatevers be defiled by such caring! The shame!

    :p

Also, youngest niece, the one I clearly dote upon, brought me a gallon of water. Little bit nearly died carrying it upstairs (wanted me to know she brought it) and I found that slightly humorous. The water is great though, 10/10, I'd stay hydrated everyday. :superagree:
