1) I'm not a native English user, and it annoys me. 2) I do make errors a lot. I fix them if I can and spot them. Heck, I even switch "you're" and "your" a lot. Blame autocorrect! I'm not kidding. Autocorrect IS responsible for >90% of my you're/your mistakes (and related typos.)
Today on "Things That Annoy @Night Herald But Shouldn't": Yes, I'm joking. Thanks for the chuckle. Bad language in general is a bit annoying, though. Unless it's only slightly bad, or completely, magnificently bad.
It's vs its. They're vs their vs there. Of vs have. Moot points vs mute points... And the way some people abuse past modals really gets me. "What if Joe would have done this?"
Enlighten a poor, grammar-illiterate foreigner, would you please? What exactly is wrong with that one? It seems like something I might write. ETA: I wouldn't actually write that, but I'd still like to know why I wouldn't.
There's a scene in Back to the Future where Martin Barry, of the band Martin Barry and the Starlighters, introduces a break by saying, "Don't nobody go nowhere." Does that mean he wants everyone to stay where they are, or that he wants everyone to go away?
That's easy. Don't (negative) nobody (negative) go (neutral) = everybody (positive) go (neutral) if so, then: [Don't nobody] (positive) go (neutral) nowhere (negative) = Everybody (positive) go (neutral) nowhere (negative) = Everybody stay the fuck where you are. Tada!
It's either a function of macOS or the browser, based on simple spell checking (hence, it does not recognize you're/your – they're both spelled correctly.) And since I'm using both English and German a lot, it does not properly recognize the language, say, if I search for a product on shopping sites. Makes for an interesting search history.
They annoy me when the performance is competently decent but not much more. To my mind, standing ovations should be given only when the performance is so spectacular it launches you right out of your seat, you can't stay sitting down. That said, I constantly play the hypocrite and join in S.O.s at my local symphony concerts. If I'm not standing, I can't see the performers take their bows, as everyone else is on their feet blocking my line of sight.
The poor spelling and incorrect tenses are making my brain itch. ^^^ Ingenious mathematical problem solving skills demonstrated! Standing ovation for you.
On that note, Jeremy Renner. Don't know why, but I just cannot stand him. I don't think he lacks acting skills (any less than any other generic Hollywood persona), but there's just something about him that makes me want to throw my TV off the balcony, and he's in everything these days.
group projects.... in an online class.....writing a collaborative, analytical paper due tuesday..... no one is on the same page (so to speak)!!!!
Yeah, no. I haven't been in a group project in ages, but I certainly don't miss them in any way, shape, or form. I don't know how it always ends up being a mess. Good luck.
it consists of "has anyone done anything yet?" Me: yeah, i added it to the google doc them: what google doc? me: the one the professor shared them: this google doc? me: yeah.... that one. and [classmate] organized the infrmation and shared it in a spreadsheet them: what spreadsheet? me: ....the one on the google doc them: what google doc? when will this merry-go-round end?
