I’d suggest reading up on the ASOIAF wiki and the Game of Thrones wiki. Specifically Valyria, Magic, Dragons and the Targaryens.
The only one currently starting is Our Dystopia, which is just starting soon so character submission is open here: https://www.writingforums.org/threads/our-dystopia-ooc.167516/ I'll be joining that one too, but by the end of the week. I may also be opening my own soon as I am building a seafaring fantasy adventure campaign currently.
hi im brand new here first post Im a GM running a weekly game right now for some friends, i would like to make the game a little more emotionally engaging and really tell a story can i get some input here? is there another thread i could join to get some tips/critiques?
Are you talking about tabletop D&D sort of stuff or play-by-post sorts of written RPGs? We do play-by-post here, which is not what you're looking for, I think. This site, however, has many resources for improving writing in general. Send me a PM with what you are specifically looking for if you can't already find it on this site on your own. Just be aware that this is a writing forum, not a tabletop campaign forum.
I've watched several Game of Thrones lore videos recently, and as a result I'm now jonesing to roleplay something in Westeros. As far as when and where the story would unfold, I'm thinking 400 BC (pre War of Conquest) focusing on the Riverland Houses' rebellion against their King, with the climax being the Battle of Six Kings. https://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Battle_of_Six_Kings Basically a low fantasy (very little supernatural stuff) military campaign, with room for worthwhile subplots. I'm obviously still in the brainstorming phase, but the player-characters all belonging to the same House (Tully, Blackwood, other?) strikes me as a good idea.
I was hoping you would. That period of Westeros history is sparsely detailed, which is both good and bad for us. It's good in the sense that we'll have lots of freedom to create nobles, minor Houses, lead-up battles, as well as other important events without feeling like we're trampling the world's existing lore. But it's "bad" in the sense that I'll want/need to create several key NPCs before we start — for example: the leaders of the Faith Militant — so that we're all aware of them and can reference them. Do you have a preference for what House you'd like your character to belong to, @EFMingo ? The Blackwoods were the catalyst of the rebellion, so I think they'd be a good choice.
Other than Bone2Pick possibly starting a new one, no. However, if you choose to start your own here, you've at least got me as a guaranteed player. Sorry for the unfortunate news though.
Gotcha, man I remember back in the day here there would be 5 or 6 games with multiple post per day. It is kinda sad to see it so dead
