So in my series I have four characters that feed off the life force, or energy, of others. In one of the stories within the series one on these characters, Suzaku, brings another character to his world. Now in earlier drafts Suzaku was possessing this other character, Haruka, but fed off a third character. Changes have been made and Suzaku is no longer a possessor. Now here comes the issue... Haruka would be brought over from the real world not to be a vessel but the intended energy-donor. But what reason would Suzaku have to bring someone over from another world of hisown is full of willing donors? My thought is that since the life force have a taste to him he have goten bored of the tastes of his world and wants to try something new. Now is this believable? Haruka might also need a motivation check. As the vessel he had no say at all in the matter but in this new scenario, why would he agree to stay and become Suzaku’s donor? I was thinking that maybe he is attacked by the enemy shortly after arriving and decides to help the only way he can given the fact that he is the only one without magic. Now does this work?
That would mean that all four of them need an alternative donor, and that is a path I'm personally not seeing.
I don't know if this would alter your story too terribly, but maybe there's something inherently special about the main character? Some kind of power or maybe he's not quite human himself? The energy fed off of him could be more potent than anyone else, perhaps. Another thing you could try is maybe Haruka and Suzaku have some met before Haruka is whisked away to another world? Familiarity might incline him to willingly become a donor?
Suzaku and Haruka don’t have romantic feelings for each other. Quite the opposite, actually, since they both love the same man. And to clarify a little.... This man, Fuu, is in a relationship with Suzaku from the very beginning and as the story move on Haruka fall in love with him too.
