I know, I went looking and found a couple of ads with a little girl disappearing into a shopping bag and going through a string cheese world, but nothing inappropriate.

I had a peanut butter and jelly roll-up (just peanut butter and jelly smashed together in a tortilla like a burrito because I fuckin' can) and the rest of my Triscuits I bought to have some "healthy" snacks. Gah, they sure get you with that labeling, don't they?

That (triscuits) was my snack of choice tonight too, while I finished off Locke and Key on Netflix. I put a specialty sweet and hot relish on them as a spread and it was delicious.

I was referencing a British advert where the Cheese string is wearing Speedos on a beach.

I always found the Peperami adverts to be sinister as well, but for different reasons.

OT, however: I cooked pasta last night, and brownies. Let's see how long the brownies last.

Pizza. Does that count? I'm putting it in the oven myself.

I made chocolate pancakes with black cocoa powder for a food photo shoot for my recipe collection. I like tinkering with variety.

For dinner, I made rice noodles in a chicken miso broth with seaweed garnish and chicken dippers as an alternative to tempura.

Liquidating the fridge of leftovers and perishables before I re-up the inventory tomorrow. So it looks like some blackened chicken with the rest of the chipotle red sauce and the tomatillo green sauce. Kind of like an enchilada set up, but not exactly. Prob got enough lettuce varietals left for some kind of salad.

I also have 37 eggs with another 5 dozen or so in the restaurants walkin that are about to turn. Along with 200# taters... probably some omelettes and homefries in our future.

Chili! I made my famous (?) chili! A big pot, so it will last maybe a week, if I serve it on rice. I'm about to make tonight's rice. Dinner in 45 minutes.

I ordered pizza because I didn't feel like cooking and my stomach hates me for it. Holy cheese, I'm uncomfy. Why do I do this to myself?

I didn't used to care for it much until I got saddled with two cases of it from the restaurant. Fortunately, a 2# bag of it cooks down to like 4 servings. I do oil, garlic and chicken stock.

Nice thing about spinach and similar utilitarian vegetable sides is that it cooks down in a perfect 5 minutes, so if you got three pans and two ovens going, you know what the spinach is going to do. And if you drag another dish the spinach will hot-hold for like another 20 minutes with only minimal degradation in quality. Not like risotto... you fuck up your timing or plating with risotto and it will turn into bullets.

The canned stuff is trash, has to be the fresh leafy stuff. That`s the good stuff.

I did grow up watching Popeye though....maybe I was brainwashed.

Fellow spinach enthusiast here. For me it's a big deal, as me and edible greens have never been close.

Maybe it could be a strange prerequisite for becoming part of The Brotherhood? :p

Managed to stretch the inventory another day without having to his the grocery store. Found some pancetta in the freezer and one lousy onion in a random cupboard... add a can of tomatoes and you have amatriciana with some fresh fettuccine. No lettuce, but the rest of scraps made a nice salad. Opened a bottle of Zingari Tuscan, of which, I have two cases on hand.

Of course, now I'm all the way bingo on lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, red onion, white onion, garlic, potatoes, and fresh fruit. Massive produce run coming tomorrow, though at least the restaurant still has plenty of onions and potatoes, and maybe even a little peeled garlic if it hasn't turned yet.

I inventoried my freezer while I was making the produce list. Currently I have:

    3# chicken breast
    2# chicken thighs
    1 whole chicken
    3# bone-in pork chops
2# boneless pork chops, thin sliced
    3# ground beef
    2# meatball mix
2-3# filet scraps from the restaurant
    2# 26-30 shrimp
    2# hot sausage
8 quarts of tomato sauce with two meatballs each
    2 pints tomatillo salsa verde
2 pints enchilada red sauce (sort of)
    2 pints homemade salsa
    4 packages of hot dogs
1 package of something that might be brats

I'll probably still buy three or four things of meat anyway. In normal times I run the freezer bingo before the re-up, but that's not happening in these crazy fucking times. 30 days food, booze, and cigarettes on hand at all times. No exceptions.

Fish & shrimp tacos on homemade blue corn tortillas. Haven't got the seasonings down, but it filled me up.

Cajun seasoning, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt... add cumin and chili powder if you want it to taste like a taco-taco, but I prefer to let the cajun drive the bus. A nice hard sear on the meat is good too, especially chicken and shrimp. Blacken the beejezus out of it and finish in the oven.

Should have used the cast iron skillet on the shrimp instead of the non-stick pan, then.
