The standard German quote for that (from the classic comedy "Feuerzangenbowle". Well, classic in Germany):

    "Pfeiffer."
    "With one or two effs?"
    "With three."
    [beat]
[upon the wide eyes, deadpan]"One before, two behind the 'ei'."

Cyclists and joggers are becoming increasingly unpopular - and even the ‘indoor exercise types’...are frowned upon.

I am certain they will all return to prominence - once more when our society[ies] becomes again more tolerant toward the vacuous moron teeth/disability narcissists, bless them always, & celebrities.

HMG advice - keep 2m away from people to avoid droplet infection - except cyclists and joggers - keep at least 20m away from these bastards, running past like dragons evacuating great plumes of corona-laden sputum as they pant and wheeze along the middle of the footpath in a miasma of virus-dense evaporating sweat...

walkers. walkers are ok. keep 2m away from walkers.

I’m thinking of the ‘Letter from Italy’ published in the Grauniad - a week ago - and the ‘things you perceive as important now shall evaporate to ****’ perspective - being realised....

It doesn't have to be either /or ... as a key worker who's trying to enforce this lockdown I agree that we need people to stay the hell at home, but there's no reason why you can't stay at home and show your appreciation of the NHS

I don't disagree with any of the rest of your post - the NHs needs to be treated better (together with the police, the council workers and every other person who society have suddenly realised is valuable after all)

However I've seen a lot of doctors and nurses saying how much they appreciate the clapping so its possible that your view isn't universal... and if it helps one person, its not harming anyone else

The official blue text of benevolent announcement: I moved the musical technique posts to their own new thread: The Musicians' Thread.

Nobody did anything wrong, it's just that the original musical post was an "annoyed me but shouldn't" but the topic grew legs really quickly. This is a creative community so go with it, but I just want to keep this thread on topic.

Back to our usual unfounded whining.

Look here - this is not personal and I find 'stolen valour' shenanigans distasteful as the next man-woman, I may be ill-informed on the issue BUT - FORUM NODERATOR - is not a 'key worker' role according to guidelines. You guys do a very important job for society, we all know that, let me be the first to thank you on behalf of my wife and children, dead parents etc

I'll have you know that noderating is essential to the functioning of our fine nation of internet :D

However I was reffering to my work with the council which currently consists of asking people to follow the rules, and not to act selfishly.... a lot like moderating as it goes

I feel the same way about sewing thread and playing cards. Why their touch skeeves me so much is utterly illogical, but they do. :wtf:

Playing cards! Woe is you! I love cards, the way they feel when well worn and loved. What foul fortune fate doth bring upon fragile souls. :meh:

The point in a live show when each member of the band gets their own short little solo on their instrument/backing vocal skill and the lead singer goes through the introductions. "And that's Johnny on the drums" <fifteen seconds of percussion primacy> "Jenny and Jill on backing vocals" <ooh ooh baby ooh> "Jeffro and his pet orangutan Harvey" <shrieking and cage bars clattering>.

I mean, without the Band it'd be an a capella solo and there are very few people who can pull that off, but to me it's as interesting as the ending credits of a movie, I'm just too polite to walk out.

Discovering that my flat is falling apart. Door frames are coming away from the wall, and there's so much damp that I've given up fighting against it. The fact that there are wooden window sills in this place is beyond insane. Most of the year round is cold, and rain is more common here than in England. I only have night storage heating to protect myself and the flat, so is it any wonder there's a problem?

It shouldn't annoy me, because I've known for a long time that I live in a hovel.

The claim to be a misanthrope...and a writer...does not square for me, add up. I hate people so I'll write a book for them. Unless it's more of an existence is tiresome, look at my feet, look at my hands, my hands, my fingernails, my breath, my eyes, I hate everything? I could read more of that, I suppose.
