I can't get my head around the fact the Earth's circumference is a mere 25,000 miles.

I know, but it's the Earth! I've always pictured it as this great colossus ball of rock, when in fact it's barely bigger than a beach ball. I mean it's a little bigger than that, but still...

"You want fantasy? Here's one... There's this species that lives on a planet a few miles above molten rock and a few miles below a vacuum that'd suck the air right out of them. They live in a brief geological period between ice ages, when giant asteroids have temporarily stopped smacking into the surface. As far as they can tell, there's nowhere else in the universe where they could stay alive for ten seconds.
And what do they call their fragile little slice of space and time? They call it real life."

    Terry Pratchett

and, yeah, in terms of distance, most Westerners drive round that beach ball every couple of years! Mind blowingly fragile and improbable existence.

Yep. It's a bookended spalted maple veneer. Even if solid, a bookend glue-up would eventually fold, so makers wouldn't do it. I'd do a stacked hardwood/spalted maple glue-up for strength, and have thicker facing for show. By then, materials would be minute compared to labor.

I don’t know how to interpret all that. Are you saying the example I posted won’t hold up as a guitar body?

The pattern on that veneer was 'bookend', meaning that two boards from the same tree were matched. That means one single glue joint, which is weak. So, that example has to be veneer. A single sheet (board) of spalted maple could be used if it were supported by other hardwoods, like a shell or sandwich. I'm saying that to make a solid chunk of spalted maple work, it would require a labor-intensive process. That means the cost of the maple is negligible, comparatively, atp. It would look stunning and be unique, I guess.

Is the Deep South just chronically, hopelessly addicted to country music? I swear, I hear the same songs everywhere I go. The same damn country music channel :confuzled:

Small towns are pretty country, but I read years ago that more country music was sold North of Mason-Dixon than South. I don't know if that's still true.

I think it's more a rural/urban dichotomy than anything specifically regional; I know a lot of country artists are from the Midwest.

Chap I’m working with at the moment likes to talk. He’s always relaying things he’s seen and done. But he has this habit of occasionally going into a covert whisper half way through his tales, as though to avoid being overheard. Might not sound that odd except he does this when it’s just me and him and we’re in the middle of nowhere,

While I worked at the high school garden last night, Cascade softball hosted a post-season game. A dear friend and her cool daughter were going to watch the game, but they came over to me and we spent the whole time talking. It meant a lot to me.

As an added bonus, the girls won in extra innings.

I wonder how much manufacturers are going to hike up the prices of their face coverings by, in light of the compulsory wearing ruling.
