They were catching people on the roads not wearing masks and charging them with a fine. I was wearing a mask but I was talking to my wife on the phone. :( So I also paid. It is quite fierce how strongly the community is responding to corona down here.

I must confess I'm a non-mask wearer. It's not a boast, but I've not worn one throughout this whole pandemic. If I have to take public transport any time soon I won't have a choice, but I personally think they're an over-precaution and probably don't serve much purpose. The UK has kept it under control (to a degree) and the number of mask wearers probably equates to about 5% of the population (assuming what I see is typical for the rest of the UK, of course)

but they've kept it under control (if 45-65k fatalities can be called under control) by people being locked down or socially distanced... take away the lock down and 2m distancing and masks become more important

Ive had to help 2 deaf/hard of hearing guests. One of them was deaf but had 2 implants and couldnt wear a mask. She was also a lip reader and was getting teary eyed when she couldnt understand me. I stood 6 feet back and removed my mask to help her.

Another, elderly guest had a hearing aide in and wore his mask, but i had to yell to get him to understand and he was getting so frustrated. :(
Those are the guests i feel that are struggling the most with wearing a mask, and for good reason too. Im actually considering getting a face shield so my lips can be visible so these guests wont feel so stressed and frustrated

Yeah, I realized I may have lost my reason there when they cursed at me. I told the security guard but he obviously didn't want to help and they were standing right outside. So my anger just boiled two-fold. I do regret letting the situation get the best of me.

One good thing about restaurants, we can deny anyone service for any reason... including the color of their shirt. And we can tell them to fuck off on their way out the door.

So far so good, though. Only had to kick one couple out over the last month. I'll give masks to guests who don't have them if they're polite about it. That notable couple aside, it hasn't been an issue.

RI is also just about done with cases, though. My contact tracing logs have over a thousand names and not a one of them has been flagged by DOH yet. Same story in our neighboring states... mainly since we started the pandemic in the first place and got firebombed by the start of April.

As a member of the "vulnerable folks" (70 years old) I must take strong issue with this. Being under control "to a degree" is not of much value. You might be willing to risk infection, but the mask is to protect others, since you may be asymptomatic but still a spreader. The mask is for others, not yourself.

Dictionary.com is getting on my nerves.

For whatever reason, whenever I have it open, it causes my computer to lag. I was literally working on my WIP when my computer decides to lag and catch like every other letter/word until I had a whole string of garbage. THEN it decided to freeze when I tried to delete it.
Had to close the Thesaurus tab and refresh my google doc (thank got for auto save).
This ALWAYS seems to happen when ever i use dictionary.com (more specifically, the Thesaurus part of Dictionary.com)

Probably a memory overload. Do you have an extra slot for memory on your computer? One more stick should fix that problem entirely.

I have no idea what any of that means. My computer is like 9 years old and probably running on fumes, to be honest:pity:

Nope. I'm a total whore. I would have welcomed them with open arms, assuming they really could have delivered a decent amount of exposure. Probably wouldn't have gone all the way free, but I would have hooked them up.

I have not been on social media for about six years now. The world has really changed since. Youtubers are like. . . I don't understand a thing about them and so many, so so many have sprung up. For a time even I wanted to do this. But it is baffling. All that confidence that one boasts on youtube - I think it's toxic. I follow a few myself. How can you avoid them? But on the sidelines I see so many who are essentially doing nothing, just so much noise. There is a very uneasy feeling about this. It is good that it is free and that it helps people earn some. I follow a few gamers who make a living out of streaming and sharing their games. But they are doing something. They are good at what they are doing. What about the many so many - it's crazy, hard to get one's head around. Has youtube really penetrated so deeply into life? I am not on facebook. Who knows what is going on on facebook!? Political wars I suppose. Humanity has become bent upon exhausting all its mental resources.

Just thinking out loud. Your shared website made me speak here. This has been on my mind for some time now.

Consider what Docs is doing. Every time you type, it scans the entire document and applies rules even if you turn them off (it just doesn't bitch at you). When you also have addons, they behave according to their own algorithm, possibly dragging processing. If your documents are more than 20 pages long, it's like brute force code-cracking. Experiment with some smaller documents and see if there's add-ons you can do without. See if there are more efficient updates to your thesaurus. My dino-slate (2011) PC survives Docs with 20 pages or less, now. Good luck. :)

My copies of the first and last books in a series I'm currently rereading are missing. I mean, I can get or borrow e-copies, of course, but still...there's something wonderful about real copies.

Got a nasty pimple/ingrown hair (not 100%) on my lower neck,
and it has a gross yellowish head and won't pop. Moderate
tenderness, but I don't trust myself to be using pointy implements
around such a sensitive area in terms of not nicking anything
important. So will have to wait a day or two, and see if it is ready
    to go boom .

I have such a love/hate relationship with those things. Annoying but so satisfying to pop.
