In one of my stories a character converts an AK-47 from a legal semi to an illegal full auto. My problem is I don't know a lot about firearms. I know the firing pin needs to be replaced, but is there anything else in the process? I've tried doing some research but I'm honestly not sure where to look, plus considering most search engines rat on people who search for certain things, like the Anarchist Cookbook, I'd rather just ask.
I found this through a google search: https://www.quora.com/How-can-you-turn-a-semi-auto-AK-47-into-a-fully-auto Might give you some small info. Also, this maybe: http://docshare01.docshare.tips/files/5068/50683093.pdf I have memories reading this as a teen after downloading it and a bunch of other "questionable" material.
Its not the firing pin, its the trigger sear, bolt carrier, and the selector switch... you can easily find how to's on line, but since its illegal without a class three licence i'm not going to link them here. - just search converting ak to full auto... there are videos and pdfs on the first page To be honest unless hes an expert gunsmith with a machine shop, by the time hes bought all the bits on the black market, it'd be easier to just buy a full auto AK
If it has polymer furniture instead of wood (though it may still work?), they could try a bump stock. Kinda a quick cheater vs. conversion kit parts or buying a Mil grade warehouse model with full auto. Just an idea. (Also the tax stamp to legally own a full auto is really expensive.)
tbh bumping is really inaccurate anyway... a competent marksman with a semi auto can crack off rounds fast enough that it makes little difference outside of actual war (even in actual war rifles spent a lot of time on semi because of ammo conservation)
From a mechanical standpoint, it's easier to build a fully automatic rifle than a semi. Once you get around the basics of how an autoloading design functions there's not a whole lot to it. Out of idle curiosity...is there any reason it needs to be full auto? Outside of fire suppression FA is mostly just good for wasting ammo.
but i strongly doubt the field and stream total gun manual covers converting an AK47 to full auto fire, since its about sporting use and there is no sporting application for either an AK47 or full auto fire
I dunno, my grandpa was a naval officer in the Pacific in WWII and he and some of his buddies got drunk, stole a jeep and some tommy guns, and went blasting through the meadows in the PI trying to machine-gun the dikdik deer... But yeah, that was a different time.
i know a guy who was disciplined for shooting a laaws rocket at a camel after the end of gulf 1... but i don't think camel hunting with laaws qualifies as 'sport' either
You can provide cover with a semi automatic... consider this https://www.youtube.com/user/DemolitionRanch/videos (about 12 minutes in) although that's an RPK light machinegun, the one hes got there is semi only... look how much fire hes putting down and the damage its doing to those block walls that aside since by your own statement you are not a firearms expert i'd suggest staying with generalities "Bob had illegally converted the AK to full auto with parts from the dark web.. "
I'm pretty sure Stephen King knows where you can get the full auto open clip belt cylinder for a MAC-47 assault machinegun.
Yeah but stephen king knows how to yank back the hammer of his Glock and fire it until the blueing smokes... (for anyone not in on the joke here Stephen King is notorious for fucking up his firearm details...)
I am remidinded of the scene from Dreamcatcher, where the dude answers his pistol and talks to the aylamoa.
