I was mentioning that to my mum the other day, and what I suddenly realized shocked me the most was how slow on the uptake most big businesses are.
Not ONE of the premier league clubs sells logo-adorned facemasks yet. I cant wait to hear their marketing departments firing people en mass for missing that obvious gimme.
Even Formula 1 has colour-matching logo facemasks, and they only print them out for the team and drivers.

Before the pandemic, I used to drive past Cascade 2 or 3 times a year, but never stopped there (except for gas near the highway); before they widened Highway 151 I used to drive through it. I found it a charming little place. I hope the highway diversion hasn't hurt the downtown, but I fear it has.

Last night in bed my breathing felt slightly laboured, and every time I was about to drop off I got this strange sensation I was about to stop breathing altogether.

Funnily enough I didn’t sleep too well.

No, but I do have some occasional disorders, such as sleep paralysis and violent head vibrations.

Downtown has made a bit of comeback. Last year, a bakery/coffee shop opened up and is doing gonzo business. Even when they were only doing curbside delivery they had many customers. Two other vacant buildings are being converted into a microbrewery.

The school is suffering from declining enrollment. Freshmen through junior classes totaled 259 kids in 2000, but only 175 this year. But that's not only a Cascade thing, it's a rural Iowa thing.

It is a kind, caring and charitable town.

I have struggled with the "You're not from here," experience. That's been frustrating to me as while I'm not a native, I did work here for 11 years before becoming a resident. But again, lots of rural towns have people who think like that.

The other negative is Cascade is the worst community for gossip I've ever been around. If I were to go for walk around town with Sasha Banks and Alexa Bliss, text messages would be circulating like crazy. (Actually, in that situation I would be okay with the gossip.)

My goal is to move to a larger Iowa community within the next couple of years as I want a new adventure. But Cascade has kept me going in the time since Mom died.

And I'm glad you've had pleasant experiences while driving through.

I agree, except when they’re made into REALLY good chips or crisps.

Baked potatoes are fun. If you have a gas stove you can just wrap them in foil and stick them on the burner.

I don't mind mashed in very small doses. I have a big appetite but can only manage two or three spoonfuls of mashed potato before I feel bloated and even a little bored with the taste and consistency.

My ideal mashed potatoes are equal parts gravy, salt, and potato.

I do my own, potatoes, garlic, parmesan, and heavy cream for the mashed potatoes, and smoker dripping gravy. Good stuff, Maynard!

Our record for mash potatoes sold in a night is 4 cases, I think. 200 lbs. Plus a case of heavy cream and probably 20 lbs butter.
