Talking strong storms tomorrow afternoon/night. We've been fortunate this year as the severe weather has missed us. At some point the odds catch up to you.

We need the rain. Hopefully it comes in a quiet manner.

I enjoy watching boxing on television, partly because you know exactly how long the commercial breaks will be.

I'm trying to find out the body thickness of a dreadnought acoustic, but all the plans I can find are either too small to see the figures, or they don't give the body thickness. Does anybody happen to know?

It's the ninth day of the eighth month of the craziest year we've ever seen.

And you've made it this far.

    Shows how strong you are.

So much for muscle memory. I've had this current keyboard for about five years now, and I still hit semi-colon when I need an apostrophe about 95% of the time. At first I thought to myself, oh it must be a slightly wider keyboard layout, I'll get used to it. Five years later and I still hit ; for '.

    Reason #341 why semi-colons suck.

They are extremely useful as punctuation; in fact, I think they should be used more often.

I can't figure out why it happens. Never used to. My old keyboard is long gone so I can't compare the layout to see if the reason shows itself, but it drives me round the bend!

It might have been a crappy cheap guitar in the first place, but this 'restoration' upsets me. When he produces the freeze-dried noodles at 7:10 I nearly fell off my chair!

The thing I hate the most about it is, spellcheck knows it's wrong but can't fix it, I think it's unable to deal with punctuation. So it highlights it but I have to go in manually and fix it.

It's storming. If I had a front porch, I'd be sitting on it watching the lightning dance. As it is, the internet is being curmudgeonly, so I'm going to read or maybe write until I pass out.

Just thinking how age takes away skills.

Just talked to an old friend from years back, who is a fantastic guitarist and has been in several bands ...who is struggling with arthritis in his hands, and is going to have to give it up soon. He's only in his early 60s, but you can't play guitar to any kind of standard if you can't move your fingers. My husband has the same problem ...one finger on his fretboard hand doesn't bend any more, so he no longer plays guitar.

I've had to give up my landscape painting because my eyesight has changed, and I can no longer see the landscape, choose the colours I want to use and apply them to the paper without having to change glasses three times.

I know a couple of hillwalkers/mountaineers, who have had to quit because their hips and knees now need replaced. And they are also in their 60s and early 70s, and otherwise in good health.

One friend of mine used to be an astonishingly excellent knitter, but she's had to give that up because it hurts her hands to hold the needles now. She's in her early 80s...the age you'd think 'grannie' would be able to knit to her heart's content. But no.

Age is not for sissies. And you will almost inevitably lose the ability to do what you used to be good at. And yet the desire and the knowledge we need to do these things is still with us. But damn. I guess we count our blessings if our health is otherwise good, and we can still do other stuff, and even learn NEW stuff. But it's not fun to have to give up doing stuff you used to be good at.

I'm getting to that stage. I did a tough pack hike a week ago with some steep climb and descents and it killed my knees. Years of trekking with packs is taking it's toll and now it hurts either way on stairs. I went bowling a few nights ago and couldn't do my usually run-up. I had to walk and carefully roll because the momentum was killing my knees.

    I'm only middle aged. :(

I don't think I knew what discordant noise until this morning, when my lovebird (whose style is screech) tried to sing along with Paul Revere & The Raiders singing "Kicks."

As someone who’s convinced he’ll suffer with premature arthritis (I sometimes wonder if I’m already in the early stages) that made me feel so good reading that. Thanks :D
