Hey! Just get your playing done while you're still young. At least you will have done it. And who knows? Maybe the arthritis will appear in your knees instead. You could get lucky. :)

Unfortunately, this thread resonates with me. I'm older than I was when I told my dad he was too old to help me move. My daughter forbade me from helping her and her partner move from one apartment to another, pointing out I have a recently-diagnosed torn meniscus in my right leg. Since then I tore my right (dominant) thumb-top open while cycling and seem to be developing a gout attack in my left foot. This really doesn't fit in with my golden age plans. At least (knock wood) my hands and eyes are fine and (far as I can tell) so is my mind and my writing voice.

I always liked Garrison Kiellor's comment that one thing about getting older, at some point you no longer have to worry about early-onset dementia.

Would you still say that if I told you I was off to the Erotica subforum with this picture?

I'm not, but I do have something in mind involving Martha and Snoop :)

I'm feeling a subtle, daunting sense of foreboding. Like something bad is about to happen. It's basically going like this:

    My brain: "OMFG STOP!"

    Me: "What? What's going on?"

My Brain: "ALL THE BAD THINGS!!! ALL OF IT!!!"

Me: "Slow down. What exactly do I need to be worried about right now? Something I know I can fix. Is there a problem?"

My Brain: "ALL THE PROBLEMS!!! ALL OF IT!! REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!"

I get that every so often as well. All I can do for it is find a distraction and wait for it to pass, although you could also write it out in more detail than you've done here while the feeling is fresh and inflict it on a character later.

I get that too, and sometimes it helps to pass gas.

It always helps to pass gas.

Especially on first dates, job interviews, and crowded elevators.

What do I need to do in order to start enjoying coffee again?? I don't know why my brews started to taste off but it's been like this for at least 12 months now. I've been through every instant out there, including the cheap ones, but I just can't get that taste back. It's extra frustrating because I can't decipher what's wrong, only that something is lacking. I've experimented with strength and sweetness, but no matter how I make it there's always something.... insipid about the taste.

Maybe it's time for a new kettle. Oh, and I still haven't tried bottled water, which I think is what someone advised last time I mentioned this.

You might try an actual percolator. I don't think any instant coffee tastes all that good.

or a caffitere or a filter ... in my experience the only instants that are at all drinkable are kenko millicano and nescafe azera, but neither of them is as good as proper coffee

TRYING (!!!) to read Eric Flint's "Ring of Fire" series.......it's soooo many books!!!!!

Switch to soda pop? From Warren Buffett, talking about his investment in coca-cola:

"With Coke, for example, Buffett has addressed numerous questions over the company's ability to thrive in volatile overseas markets or in the midst of declining domestic consumption. Without missing a beat, Buffett typically points out that more people around the world continue to drink Coke, and this trend will remain. At times, Buffett will provide even more detailed justifications for his confidence in Coke's future:

One thing that people don't understand... cola has no taste memory. You can drink one of these at 9 o'clock, 11 o'clock, 5 o'clock...You can't do that with cream soda, root beer, orange, grape... You get sick of them after a while... There is no taste memory to cola. The average person drinks about 64 ounces of liquid per day, and you can have all 64 ounces of that be Coke... If you do that with almost anything else -- with just one product -- you'll get sick of it. And that's a huge factor."

I'm thinking that your taste buds might be remembering the taste of coffee and rebelling? Hey, it's all I got. If you want caffeine, try soda pop for a bit. There's certainly enough flavours out there that you should find one you like.

I read this while drinking a Coke, and I'm pretty sure I had one earlier too...

That's a very interesting theory and one I'm not going to argue with. You may have just hit the proverbial nail here. Although I won't be switching to soda because I don't like fizzy drinks.

@GrahamLewis @big soft moose - 'Proper' coffee's not the answer. I've always liked instants so (@Cdn Writer's theory aside) there's no reason I shouldn't still.

I tried it with bottled water. The drink was smoother, but not up to my brews circa 2018.

Cedar Rapids media is reporting 80 to 90 percent of properties in the city suffered some form of damage from Monday's storm. CR is Iowa's second largest city.

    Wow.

I don't know how this discussion about potatoes got started but I like 'em sliced and salted with garlic salt. Then you put the slices with butter into an aluminum foil enclosure and throw it on the BBQ. Makes for delicious crispy potato chips that go well with BBQ chicken or steak or any meat really.

That sounds amazing! My mom makes some great redskin potato slices. The perfect outer crispyness. Never asked what seasonings she uses.

I just ate, but you're making me hungry.
