The hold music for the electric company ain't too shabby. Kind of a funk fusion thing with good guitar and piano riffs. I started humming along to it, singing "derp derp derp" to the melody until my wife came downstairs to see if I was having a stroke.

Yeah sometimes it's a total jam. It's like, please don't pick up the phone, I want to hear this loop a couple times.

No one at work believes me when I say I can magnify small text on packaging etc - that’s too small for my eyes - by forming a ring with my thumb and forefinger so that the tiniest of pinholes remains, and holding it up to my eye. The text has to be almost touching the other side and it’s very tricky to get the size just right, but it works!

I've just watched a very scary thing - Tommy Cooper dying of a heart attack during a live broadcast from a Royal Variety Performance that aired in the 80s. There he was, going about his normal day, laughing and joking... performing... and then bam! he collapses. The audience are laughing, thinking it's part of the act. You see his torso heaving up and down as his body struggles to breathe, and still the audience laugh. Then someone is the studio realises something is amiss and puts the titles up for a commercial break. It's incredible haunting. I've always known this is how most heart attacks/failures take their victims, without warning, but to see it... Not one for the hypochondriacs.

It's raining pretty hard, and will continue to do so for the next 7-8 days according to the forecasts. I have a steady drip-drop of water coming through the ceiling at the top of my stairs, under which I have placed a deep saucepan.

    Oh joy.

I rent but the timing couldn't be worse. My landlady lost her mother a couple of days ago and I'm reluctant to bother her. Also I'm moving anyway, just as soon as I can find a place I can afford, but then I've been doing that for the last 18 months.

Last week was one of the best work weeks of the year for me. I was disciplined with my time management and work ethic.

I really hope I can put together two weeks of that in a row.

I also really hope you all have a great week.

    Take care.

ever get a random word stuck in your head and it becomes a thing all day?

I woke up with "cassowary" on the brain. I have no flipping clue why! I didnt watch anything the night before about a big-ass bird either.
just woke up and was like "the word of the day is 'cassowary'"

it is what it is, i guess

On my morning walk I saw a box put out for recycling, which had contained a toilet. The toilet's brand name? "Diplomat." I can't help but wonder about the brainstorming involved in coming up with that name. I just don't get it. I would understand "Jetflush" or "Super-Go"or maybe "EZ-Sit", or even "Iain's Delight," but what does diplomacy have to with it?

    It's called the pinhole effect.

I was under the impression fish was good for you, so why are three of the four contents on the 'Each pack contains...' label marked red on the pack of smoked mackerel I just bought??

The company I'm employed with has just gone through major restructuring - in the back of everyone's mind we knew they meant redundancies. Nearly 200 people were let go :(
They started this 'restructuring' business by doing roadshows around this time last year - COVID didn't help either.
Thankfully my role was not 'at risk' so was not affected.

I had 42 employees pre-Covid and only hired like 14 back. Plus 4 new hires. Our whole restaurant group went from 230 to like 110, I think.

Robert Heinlein's typewriter with opened noise suppression case.

His wife referred to it as the baby coffin.
