    A silenced typewriter...

There's a powerful metaphor (or prompt) in there somewhere.

To the dude standing all hands on hips, puffed out chest, primate dominance display on the train platform: Shoulda either bought a ticket for the Premium Car or taken your show to one of the economy boarding spots. It was fun watching you run as I settled into my reclining seat though, you straphanging ape.

Spiders upset me... at least spiders above a certain size, so why am I so tempted to get a tank and furnish it with logs, stones, moss etc, as a place for them to live? And where the hell would I find a jumping spider anyway? Not that it has to be a jumping spider.

Why do I get a total mental block when it comes to the word 'exclusively'? Whenever I want to stress 'only' or 'without exception' this is the word I want, and without fail it will never come to me.

Not sure how I feel about the word "selfsame." I mean, I love compound words, and I like short syllable words, and I like singsong alliterative words (like "singsong," which checks all three of the aforementioned boxes), but I don't like affected words, and I can't see what "selfsame" does that "same" doesn't. Unless you're trying to sound clever, which is usually a sign that you're decidedly not clever.

    Hmm.

there is not enough "nope" and "ew" in the world to describe this :ohno:
    spiders be gone!

The terrarium is actually really cool.... but why or why would you put a spider in it??? I had fire belly toads that always seemed to get out of their terrariums (screen on top too) and had to gather them up in the morning. I can imagine a spider getting out while slept:blech:

I don't think it's affected. It carries a stronger sense of identicalness than "same" does.

But there'll already be dozens of the things lurking in my flat, so if it does get out, so what?

I'm pretty sure thats the same for my house, but lol, ignorance is bliss :bigwink:
I can walk through tall brush and not even think about what's crawling down there, but as soon as i see one locust or spider or some other form of multi-legged creature, the bubble of bliss is broken and I run screaming back to "safety."

Just remembering an old joke I heard many moons ago.

Two cannibals hunted down their prey and began eating it.
    1st cannibal - hey, how's it going
    2nd cannibal - I'm having a ball
1st cannibal - that's not fair, you're eating too fast.

Sorry, I'll take my coat and leave ... lol

I guess. If you were to rank the spectrum of similarity it would look something like: identical > same > similar, with selfsame standing in for identical as style warrants.

I kind of want to build this and do some similar stuff, but I think I'm going to try out a snake terrarium sometime this upcoming year first. I've looking at getting a Vietnamese Blue Rat Snake because ratcnakes are relatively small and generally enjoyable snakes to have as pets, but I'm also looking at a few tree snakes.

This is the sort of vivarium I would like to build, and I like the little green tree constrictor hanging out there too.

Huh. What exactly would make one snake pet better than another, enjoyment-wise?

Different snakes have different inherent personalities. Rat snakes travel a lot so they are quite a bit more active and their small size doesn't make them lethargic. The big pythons are slow ground dwellers that usually lay and sleep most of the day, but they tend to be easier to be friendly with because they fear less due to their size. Tree snakes Like to hang out up high and are generally reclusive, but they make nice conversational animals to have in a lively vivarium with many plants and possibly with a lower pond tank. That's just off the top of my head, but there's quite a few others like vipers, sidewinders, and water snakes that have their own unusual appeal.

I tend to like the constrictors best because they can get used to coming out of the tanks and I usually wrap them around my arm while I'm doing other stuff. They'll just hang out and smell you with their tongue and enjoy your warmth. Tree snakes are fun when you put a lot of posts up near the ceiling of a room. They'll move around up high while you're doing other stuff and hang out. I also find it immensely fun to feed constrictors, though they do miss their food from time to time and bite you. That's sort of my own fault, as I usually am holding them when I feed them, but it's pretty cool taking the snake out and then having them strike their pretend prey from your hand.

There are some very cool creatures to own as pets, but most of them go against my views on the forced confinement of animals. That's not a criticism of you personally, of course, just my opinions on domestication.

Electric hobs are crap! There I am trying to fry my eggy bread and the sizzling starts to fade. Why? Well, because my oven has a stupid, over-sensitive thermostat system that doesn't so much regulate the heat, it just turns it off instead, and only turns it back on when the temperature drops to near cold.

My next project will be a closed ecosystem/paludarium/jar aquarium. Not for fish as I think that would be cruel given the limited space, but certainly for tiny snails, sea monkies etc.

I used to own some tiger snails when I was much younger, they were pretty cool and got mailed to me in a tuppaware, if I remember correctly. I got too upset when my last two goldfish died so I just stick with my cat these days. Never thought i'd end up preferring them to dogs. vegan

What do pets think when one is changing one's clothing? Do they understand "clothing" as a paradigm, or do they think it's my skin? Is that why the cat feels compelled to sit upon anything I take off? "This be the flesh of the foodgiver. I shall protect it until needed, lest the foodgiver fail to fill the bowl."

I think they get it. I don't think they get why, but I think that they're smart enough to see it happening repeatedly and just brush it off as one of those weird things we do for reasons of our own, like washing perfectly good snacks off the pots and pans down the drain every day.

My dog knows that when I put a suit on I'm about to leave for work. Or maybe it's the clompy sound of my shoes instead of the slappy patter of my bare feet. Either way, he usually runs to the door and waits, thinking this is the day we all go to work together.

A sign in my local The Works:

‘Sale! Everything must go! Making room for new stock

So, by ‘everything’ you mean ‘some things’

Or ignoring them to stare at bright rectangles for hours on end. That's a big one for my dog. "You're not doing anything. Play with me!"
