Honestly haven't heard of it, I'm mostly on Black Mesa these days. I remember the OG Doom and Doom II, those were big for me in college (I'm an old fart), took a look at the newest version that came out a couple years ago but it just didn't grab me.
Doom 3 went in the horror direction in 2004 but '16 and Eternal have paid real homage to the originals in their relentless campaigns. Most FPS campaigns these days are absolutely boring to me...but ID have really stayed true to their original fans with their last two releases. Honestly, where Doom and FPS games are concerned I have more in common with your generation. They hold onto their crown with integrity too and don't endorse micro transactions. I dunno, I just love how they're carried themselves as a developer upon being known as the originators of FPS games.
One thing I have trouble with the older games though is that they were really designed (IMO) to be played with a joystick. I had a Gravis Firebird back in the day, and for things like Descent there is no substitute:
I take it back. My initiation to gaming was using DOS on 3.11. Items like that must be valuable. Always wanted to start a PS1 collection. The original doom was supposed to be used with a mouse, if I remember correctly. Nobody aknowledged it at the time even though it was in the manual. I even was a keyboarder on it for a long time.
I don't remember it having mouse support, but it's been a long time. The joysticks back then were just WASD anyway.
The multiplayer was so fast paced. The community has since died out but there was never a competitive experience quite like it.... A 1v1 duel video probably would have been a better representation than that chaos.
Ah, I never play against people. Don't have enough time to practice, don't like getting shut down by some 14-year-old hikikomori My hobby is finding the most artistic way to beat the AI.
Doom Eternal was regarded as a ballet when it came out, it lacks even normal MP. Yeah, playing Modern Warfare just made me angry online. My competitve days are over. Now....farewell until my sinuses are next clear!
I understand this. I can't play online shooters any more. I hate playing against other people in most anything other than an RTS. I am looking forward to Doom Eternal, but it will probably be years before I play it.
Yeah, my dad liked it quite a bit, so I'll probably need to give it a go first. Ripping and tearing to some angry metal.
10/22 is the finest rifle ever to leave the factory. Bought mine (well, my dad did) for $60 and a handshake from my guitar teacher in about 1987 and it's the only gun that gets fired each and every time I go the range.
Agreed. What's the situation concerning guns and shooting ranges (and hunting, for that matter) there in Japan?
What's the situation concerning 12 year old hookers and 50 lb sacks of cocaine in Michigan? Because I guarantee it's easier and more legal to get your mitts on those in MI than it is on a gun or ammo in Japan. But my mom's got 40 acres in the UP and my stepdad has marked out an informal range with no pesky ROF rules so whenever I get back it's free-fire on the tomato cans
I recently inherited my grandfather's keyboard piano and typewriter (both from the 80's). I don't play piano but it's fun to mess around with and eventually I'll try to properly learn. I haven't tried the typewriter out yet.
An endoscope ear etc camera. I'm going to need to put a breathalyzer lock on it before shit gets weird. Spoiler
A tiny, TINY, Fosi BT10A audio amplifier about the size of my smartphone and which is smaller than the power supply that came with it. I paid $53 US on Amazon for it and it delivers 50watts/channel (at 4 ohms, I know, just how many 4 ohm speakers are out in the wild? But they all do that BS, so that means it's a sort of a standard. Just a standard packed in BS) to drive my Cerwin-Vega bookshelf speakers. My 35 YO old Kenwood receiver/Amp had died, and I didn't want to start wasting my retirement funds on compulsive audiophile gear acquisition. In Photography, we call that compulsion the GAS syndrome, "Get A (new) System". This thing sounds good, actually. I've connected it to my PC. Music is great at all but the loudest volume levels, and the sound when I play Civilization VI is pretty impressive. There's a whole universe of tiny audio gear out there. Oh, Man! I can feel some GAS coming on!
Just spent a chunk of change for this bad boy. Spoiler: Space Saving Along with a strap, all the cables, reverb and overdrive pedals, picks, and a couple packs of Ernie Ball 7 Power Slinkys. Can't wait till it arrives. I'm gonna be one happy boy.
