I sort of thought that they cut down their last tree about 1500 years ago but I'm happy to see that I'm wrong.
No more Philopappous Hill for me. Mitsotakis privatised it. You should see what they've done with the Parthenon...
Problem is the burning of forests every windy summer, meaning every single summer. Since it's illegal to cut down trees or build in these areas, they burn them down to the ground in hopes they are gonna get them into building planning after there's nothing to protect anymore. This is Parnitha: The residents of Parnitha: This is the burned area of Parnitha: Strolling there is eerie af:
Seems silly to me, but I am a large landowner with a pretty big track of forest. I hate to see waste. A good portion of my home has been built using "blowdowns", trees that blew over in wind storms. If cleaned up in time, I can pull them out, saw the into boards on my sawmill, and take something that would go to waste, and use it.
My folks own a home on ~40 acres of woodland. It's a prefab (not a trailer, just one of those Lego-ish deals). The original owner bought the land, sold the one-time logging rights to the paper company, and used the money to buy the house. It's been fifteen/twenty years or so so the land is wooded again. Not a full-on forest, but a pretty nice space to live.
... when you try to take off your watch so pull at the strap to try and release the little rod that sits in the hole, but instead of the rod releasing it finds its way into the next hole along making it even tighter. So then you have to pull even harder and instead of releasing it moves yet another hole along... etc until your arm drops off through a lack of blood supply.
That moment when the first 30mins since waking up has consisted of ironing... Cleaning up poo (because your puppy is literally afraid of his own shadow and runs back to the door without going potty when he sees it but cant hold it any longer and lets lose on your carpet), and cleaning up 2 batches of throw up (because your dog decides to guzzle water and chomp her food, but also wants to play with puppy without letting the food settle) Have not even had my coffee (or food) yet.
That moment when you go on the manufacturer's website for info to help you set up your new PC and learn that if you'd waited only another week, you could have gotten it for $50 less.
In 25 years or so of home computer ownership I've never paid much more or less than $1000 for a computer. Moore's "Law" ensures that the computer you bought last week is always going to be a lower relative spec than the one you can buy next week. By 2021 a brand-new identical clone of the computer you just got will be a couple hundred bucks cheaper than what you paid. No way around it.
I wish that were wholly true . . . but the one I just got has a lesser operating system and less RAM capacity than my old computer. The processor is faster, so I guess that makes up for it. Meanwhile, I've set the cloud backup to in dump my files.
Since i started running linux i havent paid more than £50 for a computer since it runs much faster on lesser systems... i'm writing this on a ten year old fujitsu lifebook with an i3 chip (except for the imac i use for photoshop and vellum... although that was only £350 second hand)
TMW you are slowly bending the higher E string (two whole steps is what you are going for) when a sudden bad premonition hits you and you abruptly throw your head back, like you received an invisible punch, right before the string breaks. You feel like: a) a xianxia character (they tend to have supernatural qualities, one of which is superfast reflexes) b) you can foresee the future accidents and then realise that you've been watching too many chinese series lately and that perhaps it's been way past due time you changed your guitar strings.
Okay, I don't know if anyone else is getting the "Google is cranky, find the fire hydrant" preview for the youtube video, but I can't seem to kill it off, sorry.
Hahahaha! Made me look at Niovi as she was sleeping and man, I swear cat's sense devious thoughts, proven for once again as she woke up and looked askance at me. She's lucky for not having as long a mustache as it'd be preferably needed.
