    it is a bit of a random fact, actually: scrolling my screen up and down too fast makes me dizzy . . .

    Well both the picture and sound on my new TV somehow manage to be inferior to my previous 12 year old one. Both LG.

    Anyone happen to know what the formula for calculating the litre capacity for a cylindrical vessel is?

    Pi*r^2*h

    R=radius
    H=height or length of the cylinder

    use meters for units and you get cubic meters. x1000 to convert to liters.

    Somewhat related. A gram weight is based on the weight of 1 cm^3 of water. A liter of water weighs 1 kg. An ounce of weight is based on the weight of 1 fluid ounce of water. A pint of water weights a pound.

    Random thought. There are about 746 Watts in one horsepower.

    Ah, right. I found a number of calculators but they all refereed to radius where I wanted diameter. A quick search tells me the radius of a circle is half the diameter.

    This doesn't add up.

    Radius is 3" = 0.0762 meters
    Height is 10" = 0.254 meters
    The result of this calculation is : 0.46351981028571393
    Times that by 1000 and I get: 463.51981028571 litres.

    How can a jar with those dimensions hold 463 litres of fluid?

    do it in cm - this gives the result in cubic centimeters so divide by a thousand for litres (1000cc = 1 litre)

    3" = 7.62cm
    10" = 25.4 cm

    7.62^2 * 25.4 * π = 4633cc = 4.633l

    your decimal places are off. Should be 4.6 leaders (I didn’t double check your inches to meters conversion)

    Or you could just use inches. I have been calculating inches and metric since the '60's and am comfortable in both. I have written on the beauty of inches in the realm of d=a*(1/(2^n)); n=integers, 1-6.

    Jeez, isn't it long past time we just cancelled professional and college sports (high school too, come to think of it) until this nonsense is over? (All four of Denver's quarterbacks are prohibited from playing today. The QB will be a third string running back who played quarterback in two games in college.)

    90% of the time, I am a proud 1 woman army. A lone wolf.
    I work better alone. I get a lot of stuff done alone. I prefer to do stuff alone, because if I make a mistake, I have only myself to blame. I hold myself accountable, i make no excuses. I dont have to wait around for my partner(s) to catch up. I dont have to slow down and explain to my partner(s) my process.... its easier.

    10% of the time... i'm miserably lonely, lamenting why it is that i have no help and ignoring the fact that I push it away when it is offered.

    There was a clickbait, spam advertisement on a site I visit from time to time, you know, with titles like "That's what this student done and became a millionaire in a week" or "That's the secret of this 80 year old beauty" under the photo of a sixteen year old beauty queen. Anyhow, sometimes the titles are so long that don't fit the little space they have underneath the pic and so they are not visible 'til the end. The one that grabbed my attention and cracked me up read like this: Try to drink half a cup a day - It kills very fast

    more than a random thought it is a dream, the one I had last night.

    I was in a shower (not a place I recognize). It was small and contained. There were lots of dark spots. Some water was running, but I didn't really feel it. Then I looked closer to realize that some of the spots were spiders. They were tiny spiders, so I decided to water them down the drain. I cupped my hands and filled with water to throw at the spiders. I then realized that all of the dark spots were spiders, of different kinds, with short and juicy legs or long and thin ones. Some were made of spider webs like spiders had wrapped themselves in spiderweb (like a mummy) and then died in there. Larger spiders appeared but then they became small again. They couldn't pass through the drain fast enough, I was jumping trying not to have them touch my legs and feet.

    I woke up with a heartbeat . . . it was almost terrifying!

    Had occasion to look up some dates this morning, and discovered that the mini-Med cruise the Marine Corps treated me to on the USS Guam happened fifty years ago this month. Christ, I must be the oldest man in the world.

    The other side of being partial to the occasional verse; you can’t see this type of thing without thinking, ‘Mmm, the metre could do with a tweak here and there.’
