What is the word for this kind of clothes?

Discussion in 'Word Mechanics' started by alpacinoutd, Nov 29, 2020.

    Hello.

If you were to describe this kind of clothes, how would you do it?

Is it correct to use the word "filmy"? How common is that word? I mean is it widely understood? Is it just used in racy contexts?

I know I can also use "see-through" and "transparent", but I don't want to use those words.

Also, is it correct to use "sport" instead of wear for a blouse like that?

    This is the sentence:

Jannet was waiting for him at the bar, sporting a filmy black dress that showed off her figure. It was obvious she hadn't moved on.

"Filmy" are "transparent" are definitely not the right words. Try "sheer". I like "see-through" as well.

    "Sporting" is fine.

    What's wrong with see-through?

Why is filmy not correct? Is the word even used? If so, for what kind of clothes? I googled it and man different stuff came up.

Nothing is wrong with it. I want to have other options.

Google "sheer blouse" and you'll see all of this girl's sisters.

Anyone pitched in with chiffon yet? Or diaphanous?

To answer, filmy, yes I’d ditch that. To me that’s more descriptive of shiny see thru.

depends on how long you want to spend explaining what shes wearing. you can easily cover this with something like, (using second picture btw)
"she wore a black blouse that was slightly see through allowing you to make up out her crop top underneath from up close, an eye catcher for sure. she also wore a short grey skirt to complement the black blouse very elegant, with just enough allure. her outfit showed off her figure well it was clear that she hadn't moved on"

of course this is significantly longer but an example of what you can do if you spend more time. if you don't want to spend more time on the dress you can simply change what shes wearing to something like,
"she wore a black semi transparent black blouse with short grey skirt that showed off her figure well. it was obvious she hadn't moved on"

or some form of these two although personally id take the time to go into more detail on appearance and environment.

Third-ing that "sheer" is what I would use to describe that kind of blouse.
