Hey guys, Thanks for letting me in. I have a question regarding formatting (I hope I'm using the right term here) my text to fit a contemporary style for writing fiction (Crime/Murder-mystery). Is there a cohesive guide on the subject somewhere I can read? I've been looking all over and I can't seem to find any information on how my end result should look to fit contemporary publishings within the genre. That link is for how to format a manuscript. When I read the question, I thought Isiva Sanaru was asking for advice on formatting a finished book.
The original post was in January, and they only have the 1 post. I'm thinking they've probably abandoned this site by now. It's actually bizarre how many single-post accounts there are.
It's still an interesting question. When I prepared my first novel for print publication, I looked at other books in the same genre. What did I want to emulate, what did I want to do better, that kind of thing. I'm sure I also read books on the subject, though I don't recall right now what they were. I've generated my own template that I'll use throughout the series. One thing I definitely suggest is to print out sample pages to see how your selected font reads at the point size you select. And remember that with your typical POD printer, the letters will come out less intense than on the inkjet printer paper. Or, if you like, there's always Vellum--- as long as the template selected is genre-appropriate. And don't set your novel in Times New Roman!
