You strike me as one of those unfortunates who started too late. You're at a point where you know what you're doing wrong even before you do it. This is a bad thing. A lot of us who have decades of experience of writing had no idea what we were getting ourselves into when we started, and I think that's part of why we lasted thing long. It requires a certain level of naivety, or you'll be crushed by your own expectations. My advice? Accept that you don't know what you're doing. Try not to care so much. It will take you years to actually get good at this, so why worry? Do your best, then try harder. Learn. Absorb whatever wisdom and insight you can, and be patient. Don't expect miracles right away, be content with what you can accomplice right now, but always strive for something higher.
