Hi all. I'm a new writer, and I have started my first book, after a surge of inspiration. But I am not sure what genre it is. First, I thought it would be a psychological thriller, but after having read about plot structure, I'm not so sure. It is in 1. person multi pov, with 80-85% pov from the main character, while there will be two other pov to create nuances and plot twists. The story is about a man's descend into madness, where we follow his life, his thoughts, his growing delusions, with a couple of twists that changes who we see as the "bad guy" to create more nuances. As I understood it, a thriller most often have an incident that create conflict or tension, and it would often revolve around a crime, a murder. I don't think anything like that will happen. The point is more to explore obsession, delusion and paranoia, from deep inside someones mind. I would of course like to learn more about plot structure and tropes in the given genre, but I am unsure what to follow. Do anyone have any idea what i could look up, that would fit the narrative for my story? Best regards. LLS
Honestly I would finish at least a first draft before thinking too much about this. Let it develop organically on the page, without reference to the tropes of one genre or another. Genre only really matters when it comes to publication, and even then it's really more of a guideline unless you're writing one of the few genres with strict expectations (e.g. Romance) which it doesn't sound like you are.

I agree with the advice above. It takes only a few minutes to upload a book for sale on Amazon, but it might take years to writer book you’ll be proud of before you push that upload file link. My favorite authors take years to write a prize winner. Other well-read genre authors out a book every few months. it’s best for you to write your book, join a zoom critique group via Meetup, and read your work-in-progress at every meeting. You will be surprised at what you don’t know, and at how much you’ll learn. Best wishes for a successful journey.
