"Bear" is a name for a gay man who is large, has lots of body hair and usually a beard, and can carry some extra fat. "Twink" is a name for a young gay man with a slight build and little or no body hair. I'm not sure where pigeons figure into that or any other subculture :)

So a friend of mine's wife recently had a kid.

It's her second, and mom and child seem to be doing completely fine but...

When it came time for "honey, it's time" he called an ambulance (remember, I don't live in a car country. If you need transport you either take the train or a taxi, and she wasn't in any shape for either option) but due to corona yadda yadda world turned upside down...

... the ambulance arrived in time to see that mother and child were fine.

And when he told me this I was like WTF, how is it possible that a healthy adult woman of middle-childbearing age can successfully push out a healthy baby of early-babyish age without the intervention, or at least Skyped blessings, of a Qualified Medical Professional????

Yeah, if I'd been in charge of the world we'd have been extinct before the dinosaurs.

Came across this poem by a Zen-master (Ikkyu) and can't decide whether it is discouraging or exhilarating:

"To write something and leave it,
    behind us,
    It is but a dream.
    When we awake we know
There is not even anyone to read it."

It is, I guess, enough to have written.

So basically you got this back? (fast forward to about 2:36)

This is my favorite film version of R&J because it captures just what young idiots everyone involved were.

I once subbed for an English teacher who, when I asked him, told me he deliberately didn't explain all the rude jokes and innuendos to his freshman students. I think they would have enjoyed the play more if they'd understood all that.

Never mind. He knew them better than I. Might have been dangerous to stir them up.

What the Government say: “Stay at home.“

What the public hear: “Everybody needs to drive to the parks as often as they can.”

I watched an article about one of the park rangers of Snowdonia list all the hilariously bad excuses people used when confronted at the car park. "I dont watch the news." "I thought this was local, local was under 40 miles." "Does it mean walking alone in a large area, too?"

People expect others to follow the rules, just not them. And then they get angry at having a new lockdown or the current one lasting longer.

If the internet dispelled the theory of common sense being a real thing, Coronavirus has scientifically proven it never existed.

Thats the public for you... outside of pandemic conditions they are no better "I didn't know the skate park was closed" (Didnt the locked gates and the enormous sign saying closed give you a clue), I didn't know there was no bathing here the signs should be bigger (the signs are A02 and this asset to society had hung his towel on one of them,) How was i supposed to know seaweed would be slippery... there should be a sign saying that the slipway might be wet...

It’s quite bizarre. The parks have never been as packed. I know many people are still off or ‘working from home’ but why has everyone suddenly developed this hunger for visiting parks? They couldn’t give a shit about them before lockdown arrived.

The opposite of 'stairway to heaven' is 'elevator from hell'.
Might use that for the title of some horror book.

Working on my family tree, going back five or more generations, I'm reminded of how tenuous and impermanent life is, all these people who lived once and are gone, not to mention all the tragedies of spouses and children dying young, the harshness of nature and civilization. My biggest fear at the moment is that the Reaper will come for me before I get my notes organized and the narrative written printed out; it would be a supreme irony for everything to vanish into ether because no one remembers how to find them on my laptop.

Maybe a automated system on google docs that requests a ghostwriter for your notes if you die?

Or a provision in your will that disinherits your heirs if they don't finish what you started.
The benefit of having a bunch of Mormons for relatives is that they've already done all that stuff for me. They tell me I had an ancestor on the Mayflower; I can't tell you how happy that made me.

Why was I so convinced Judy Dench had died about five years ago?
