What are some nicknames someone would give themselves?

Discussion in 'Research' started by Kalisto, Apr 12, 2021.

Okay, a little bit of a different question. What are some nicknames that sound like something someone would give themselves?

Can you narrow that down? People will name themselves anything. Dog mom, batman, voodoo child, cock thumper... endless possible nicknames.

I have always regarded nicknames as something hung on you by other people. I'm a senior citizen. Over the years I have answered to at least a half dozen nicknames, and they weren't of my creation or choosing.

Yup. Believe it or not, that's what I'm looking for! Dumb nicknames no one would actually call someone else. The only way a person has that nickname is because they gave it to themselves.

Still, I'll try to look for ways to better narrow it down. I normally keep these brainstorming questions pretty vague on purpose because I get more ideas.

My first attempt gives "Huge newspaper".

Anyway, I don't use autocorrect, I made that mistake all by myself. :superlaugh:

    ....."aromatic mud"

aside from that, my self-given nicknames are basically jokes. "Nerd girl" "speedy" "Fix-it Felix"... bascally when i brag about myself, i give myself nicknames lol.

ironically enough, i was listening to a Jay Park song on my way home this afternoon and it the lyrics were soooo bad because the whole song was basically bragging about how good he is at sex in a hot tub:
Ooh girl, the candles are lit
And all that's left is me kissing your lips
And let me call you mama
'Cause we about to make a baby
And before I go put it in
I'll go underwater, girl just like a fish
And the way I stay down there
    You gon' think I'm Aquaman

the song is called Aquaman and apparently thats the nickname he gave himself....

I am petty sure that the first sign of someone being crazy, is to give themselves a nick name, the next step down the crazy path would be an invisible friend. I have had a few nick names over the years based on my occupation, all given by those who I worked with. Nobody wants to be called Stinky, Punk, or Shit head, or Fatty. I do know a guy with the nick name Scummy. You can bet he did not give that one to himself.

Usually they call themselves "this guy" or maybe "this cute, adorable girl" for weird girls

I had a few friends when I was younger that were given nicknames like Fearless Fosdick, who was a big guy that wouldn't help his friends in a bar fight. There was Grey Bobby to differentiate between him and Little Bobby. My homeless friends were Trashy Julie, Dirty Dee, No-Legs Patty and Marble Sam. For a while I hung around the bikers pretending I was one of them but never got a nickname, but I did have fun with Toothless Mary. Now if I was around a bunch with sorted nicknames, I would question IQs or SDs.

Depends on how it happened and what kind of nickname. There are nicknames you give yourself that are just for you, and nicknames you give yourself that other people end up giving you. An example of the the former is that episode of friends with Bruce Willis, he's psyching himself up in the mirror to get physical with Racheal and he calls himself a Love Machine. In that type of instance, I would imagine that the nickname would be some type of confidence booster in an area that they either struggle at or excel at in order to boost their ego. Everyone is nervous having sex with a new person for the first time, so Bruce's character takes on The Love Machine persona to help.

I imagine for most people who give themselves their own nickname, it happened by accident where one of the internal nicknames was latched onto by everyone else and it just spread from their. I gave myself my own nickname in college in this way. My high school was the dawn of instant messenger, so in high school I created my own handle. I was into martial arts at the time so it was ninja plus five random numbers. In high school it didn't take off because everyone already just knew me by my last name, but when I went to college, we didn't already have those names so it was common to associate people with their IM handle. My track coach was the first to actually just address me as ninja, so the rest of the team followed, and it went on to everyone's social circles. I was just "ninja" at my school for everyone except for a small group that came from the same high school who just kept my last name, only my closest-knit circle actually called me by first name. I imagine most self-made nicknames are some abbreviation of a self-made social handle. I mean, all of you know me as njrunner and if some cosmic entity zapped all Writing Forums users together in real life, I imagine most of you would end just addressing me as that.

    The Teflon Kid
    Destroyer
    Loco Leon
    Beats
    Easy Ed
    Stony
    Dazzle

Two women I knew in the 1970s: Spirit and Mounds.
