The only lamb I like is varieties of kebap. Spiced and very slow cooked it's good, other than that it just stinks like a burnt barnyard.
It's really good in gyros, which I think meets your criteria of slow-cooked and spiced. As a roast I think I generally prefer beef. Or moose if I can get it.
Yeah, sorry, I meant that gyros/shawarma/etc were included in "varieties of kebaps." That whole Mediterranean culinary fuckfest of deliciousness.
Since I never got on, and never saw much of a point in, Twitter, I'm still a little ashamed at how long it took me to understand that all the people talking about "hash tags" were talking about neither drugs nor breakfast.
A great one I came across in researching my WIP is zeitgeber (German, n., "time-giver"). Zeitgebers are the environmental cues animals use to keep their circadian rhythms entrained to the Earth's daily and seasonal cycles. So the biggest one is the presence/absence/position of the sun in the sky, but in humans it seems that social cues can adequately substitute during periods of extended darkness (like polar nights). Wish I could use the word itself in my WIP, in fact, but I doubt I'll be able to fit it in.
Cobby adjective (of horses, dogs, and other animals) shortish and thickset; stocky. Cuss noun INFORMAL an annoying or stubborn person or animal. "he was certainly an unsociable cuss"
A friend of mine said the best kebab he had was when we went to Tokyo. Conversely, the best shawarma I've had outside of the Middle East was from an Italian café in London.
Effluvium noun plural noun: effluvia an unpleasant or harmful odor, secretion, or discharge. "the unwholesome effluvia of decaying vegetable matter" Embrasure noun a small opening in a parapet of a fortified building, splayed on the inside. Remonstrance noun plural noun: remonstrances a forcefully reproachful protest. "he shut his ears to any remonstrance"
For some reason that sounds right. I ran across remonstrance (as well as the other two words) while reading The Lies of Locke Lamora. Here's the excerpt. I'm not far in, but so far the book has been terrific.
Armillary sphere (variations are known as spherical astrolabe, armilla, or armil) noun a model of objects in the sky (on the celestial sphere), consisting of a spherical framework of rings, centred on Earth or the Sun, that represent lines of celestial longitude and latitude and other astronomically important features, such as the ecliptic.
Shit, I'm forgetting them at an alarming pace. At this rate I'll be looking up "cat" and "sandwich" soon.
Athazagoraphobia is a fear of forgetting someone or something (such as a word), as well as a fear of being forgotten.
I learned that the adjective of merit was "meritorious" and not "meritous" the other day. Didn't stop me from typing meritous 17 different ways, cursing the forum's spellchecker, which as we all know is absolute garbage.
