Hey everyone, I am a 40 year old dabbler in fantasy writing. Mostly I write for my own relaxation when Lady Muse visits me. Maybe I'm having that fabled mid-life crisis but suddenly have gotten that itch to start working again on a file sitting dormant on my google drive since google started having file storage. In fact it started its life on a 5.25 inch floppy disk. It is set set extremely loosely in a world I modeled on the Roman Empire as it began collapsing. I don't know why but that time period has always piqued my interest and what it would have been like living as a person in a once seemingly stable environment suddenly gone. It has its own geography, races, and of course, its own magic systems thrown in. I think what draws me mostly toward your forums and fellowship is seeing what others are doing and being able to bounce ideas off other creative writers from time to time. Hope to see you all around!
Joe Hall, welcome! Yes, a lot has progressed since the 5.25 floppy disks. Glad you joined us here. Terry
Hello, welcome! My interest piques a little later than that, when everything is a mess. Lately my interest has resided on how to bring back civilisation. But I understand what you mean and I may be interested in writing some stories in that (fictional) period myself. As for the mid-life crisis, there's a lot worse things you could be doing. I'm about your age and I only started taking my writing seriously a decade ago, and I regret it very much. I should never have stopped. Good luck!
Well met, Joe. I'm also fascinated by the Roman Empire's fall, the influx of the Germanic invaders, the rise of the Merovingians/Carolingians and whatnot. I've a fantasy project myself, something I worked on for about five years before realising I prefer short fiction set in towns and woods. I modelled the aesthetics of my antagonistic and zealous empire on the Byzantines. Happy writing.
