Stories

I like to write stories and always have. I do not have the proper writing skills to put them on paper for people to read because I dropped out of school when I was 16 and got married and from there I just had a lot of responsibilities in life and just did not write again. When I used to write stories right before I got to a point ending the story I would just throw the whole story away. when I am ready to throw a story away I have already started a new one.

I do have some mental health struggles and I smoke pot but I am a nice person, not a psycho or a high maintenance person. I apologize in advance for my grammar and sentence structure. Mostly all of my stories are in my head. But I like reading how you all develop your stories.

As far as writing goes, you'll improve just by writing a lot and hanging out in here discussing and reading. Maybe get a few books on writing if you want to. But you seem friendly and fun, good to have you in here.

I have Mental heath problems too, as well as dyslexia, so I understand that struggle. wish you all the best of luck and will help out with any tips or advice I can manage, also if you publish anything I will support.

Yes, I know my sister used to call me on my birthday and say happy birthday Hitler ( which I cringe at) I am so glad 420 took it over. Yes, I know the shootings too ugh. LOL and thanks

 

I was dyslexic as a child and they had sent me to slow classes until they figured that out, also I wrote with both hands and they forced me to choose one so I am now left-handed. My early academic experiences sucked but I still have creativity and so it just is kind of there without an outlet really.

 

Welcome, Michelle. I checked out of the 420 club 25 years ago but had never heard of "420" until I'd been clean 10 years. Talk about out of the loop, right?

If you're concerned about grammar, find yourself a copy of Strunk and White's Elements of Style. It is inexpensive, short, easy to read, and if what you need to know about the mechanics of basic writing isn't in there, you probably don't need to know it.

 

Thanks, I am not planning to publish anything I do acknowledge poor grammar and sentence structure can give a wrong vibe I don't know the proper way of writing it. So I will check that out.

 

I did not learn to really write until I was in my late 40s. I also struggled with my English skills while in high school. I spent all my time working plus going to school. I decided late in life to try and learn something I had struggled with. You might want to check out some of the stories I write, they are all pretty much non-fiction or humor. I also have a suggestion for your stories if you are struggling with ending them, try starting at the end and then tell the story that got you there. You will see that just about everything I write begins with the ending, it is my way of drawing a conclusion, I am also guilty of always having a message in the story, it is what kind of drives me to either start a story or gets me thinking along certain lines. I had to learn, and I am still learning a lot of the basics, when it comes to writing. The members here are great at helping with the dynamics of writing along with the technical skills needed do learn how to write and tell a story. If you're willing to take the time to share some of your work, have thick enough skin to take some criticism, and just keep writing you will learn, if I could do it, I am sure you can.
