first heard it called a "whistle pig" in Pennsylvania! i love it!! i've always known them as simply "groundhogs".... or "chunkies" (had a groundhog living under my shed when i lived in Maryland and my mom named it "chunky" as in "looks like Chunky's out sunning" or "throw Chunky something to eat".... so from then on, all other groundhogs were just "chunkies" )
I'm pretty sure it's a yellow-bellied marmot. I think also known as rock chucks? They sit on rocks and gaze over the landscape like gentle gods.
@Friedrich Kugelschreiber did you used to have a picture of a seal or sea lion in that same position, or did I see this one and somehow think that's what it was? ~ Confused in Connecticut (I'm not really in Connecticut, it just makes a nice sig line Ann Landers style) (And I suspect it's the latter)
pretty sure it was this one: Spoiler: Screaming groundhog thing i remember it because everytime i saw his avatar, i called him "Allan" because of this video:
^^ Well that's weird! But again that would be me mistaking another rodent-like creature for an aquatic mammal. And I remember the pose being exactly the one in @Friedrich Kugelschreiber 's current avatar, so probably it was the same one but I didn't look close, missed the red fur, and assumed flippers. Hey, I do stupid things like that all the time ! And at a glance the legs do resemble flippers...
"What Are You Doing?" How I always hear the title of this thread: Spoiler: You know you want to click it
My avatar was a Grey when I first joined the forum and for some time after, and then of course there was the grayscale version of my current avatar that I had for a few months last year, but I think that's about it.
That explains it. If I saw that odd creature and it was grey no wonder I thought 'seal'. I was wondering how I could have mistaken it with the red coloring. And now I have Elton John in my head... (Gray Seal)
I just finished writing a short (very short) story in Spanish as an assignment from my conversational Spanish tutor. Sigh. I had to look up the past tense of so many words that it felt like cheating, but past tense is simply not stored in my head along with the present tense. I'm afraid about the best thing my native Spanish speaking relatives can say about me is, "She tries."
You're right: you can't spell it, but as long as you don't end the phrase with "Taco Bell," we'll overlook the spelling.
Currently in Anglesey (Wales) in a pub by the sea, eating a Fisherman’s Lunch. Whitebait, prawns, mackerel pate, salad and tartar dip.
currently finished tweaking my query letter for the umpteenth time.... and falling down the rabbit hole of "its not good enough"
They never are. Trust in the manuscript and the submitted sample chapter(s). If you get shot down by a particular agent on the query alone you were probably dead on arrival anyway. Querying is one of those walk in with nothing, walk out with nothing situations.
"working" but really I'm spending time browsing this forum (not what I'm being paid to do at the moment) shhh!
