    Hi everyone!

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by AffectionateOrange, Jun 19, 2021.

I'm glad to be a member of this fantastic forum. I've been reading posts for a while, never brave enough to actually sign up and contribute myself, because what have I got to add? Also, English is not my native language which definitely affects my confidence when it comes to writing.

But! I finally decided to ignore my inner critic and go for it.

I'm very new to writing. I've tried to write many times in the past but never had an idea that would stick. Until recently, when one idea just doesn't seem to go away. I decided to just go with it and see where it takes me.

I'm not a creative writer, I'm thinking more about non-fiction books. I have a background in Psychology and love anything science, so this is the direction I'm going to take.

Thank you for having me here and I hope to see you around!

I wouldn't have even guessed it if you hadn't said so. Your English is excellent, at least in this brief snippet. And I don't mean in the way Sonny Chiba did in Kill Bill, when he said "My English very very goooood!"
That can be very helpful for creating characters and interactions between them, especially if you like to observe people around you and try to figure them out. And even better if you like to examine your own motivations. But you need to try to let your knowledge inform the story, not dominate it. Don't write tracts illustrating textbook complexes and personality disorders.

Lol look at me, acting like I know everything...

Haha, and I haven't even run it through Grammarly! So thank you! I appreciate the compliment!

You answered your own question there, Orange! :)
You'd be amazed at how much I learn about my own language from viewing words through foreign friends of mine.

Plus, I have to ask - Affectionate Orange - does that mean you're Dutch? Or is that co-incidence?:)
    Welcome to the forums, too.

It's a coincidence, I'm not Dutch. I picked this nickname out of some random one suggested somewhere, not even sure where anymore!
