My kid is a Heinlein expert. He's read everything by him and has every Heinlein book on his shelves. He tells me that there are three Heinlein periods. Kid-lit Heinlein Military Heinlein Commander-Ryker-on-Risa Heinlein
My favorite that I've read remains Red Planet from his kid-lit phase. A couple of boys speed-skating along the canals of Mars, which have ice in them. And there was an ongoing argument about whether boys should be allowed to carry guns or not. It had a frontier setting, as many of his stories did. To kind-of tie this in with the thread topic, the story is a follow-up (though not really a sequel) to Stranger in a Strange Land, but was written first. Sounds weird, I mean the time setting of Red Planet was on Mars some years after the time setting of Stranger, though they were written in reverse order.
Are you sure about that? What if someone offered cash incentives? Talking of Vampire movies. "Fright Night 2" (The sequel to the original "Fright Night", not the sequel to the remake of "Fright Night", that strangely enough, wasn't connected to the remake) was better than most people give it credit for. I think the marketing killed it. Long story involving a real life murder involving a producer.
Oh man, I never seen Fright Night! It is on my list though! I haven't heard anybody talk about that movie in a long time. I think anybody would watch it for cash.
Fright Night's awesome. Roddy McDowall is too suave. He was perfect in that role. Who was that goofy teenager in it? He gets messed up in vampire form at the end. He was in so many movies back then. I'll have to look it up. . . . Highlander should never have had a sequel. It makes no sense. (There can be only one!) I watched part 2 and hated it. I'm ashamed to say I'm considering watching part 3 though.
You haven't? So, where is this cave that you've living in since the 80s? Watch it. It's a Vampire version of "Rear Window"... but less Jimmy Stewart. Plus it was written and created by Tom Holland (creator of "Child's play"), so it had guaranteed awesomeness. The cast isn't the best (Apart from Roddy McDowell), regardless, it was my favourite movie growing up. It always puzzled me why "The Lost boys" got all the attention and "Fright Night" was ignored. One movie I wouldn't watch for money is "Thor: Ragnarok" *Shudder*
I didn't crawl out of the cave until the late 80s My cousins are older than me and was obsessed with the Lost Boys. It got annoying after a while I'll look it up now. I wanna say I seen it on YouTube. Are you a zombie fan? Couldn't pay me to watch Human Centipede 1, (again), 2, or 3!
Oh really? Hope you got to watch the John Hughes classics, at the very least. How was the cave, by the way? lol. Yeah. It's not really a movie that I could watch in a loop. There's a couple of things that annoys me... like... one minute Michael was about to kick David's ass, the next, for some inexplicable reason, they were sharing Chinese food and "wine". Oh. Do. You'll only be considered cool if you watch it. Kinda. I prefer the whole mystical/magic methodology of Zombieism than the whole blood disease schtick. lol. I haven't watched the original. I knew that it was gonna be gross.
That's the thing, though, it was tone-deaf. Ragnarok was about the destruction of Asgaard. It shouldn't have been fun. But, for some weird reason, it was all slap-stick and prat-falls. I've seen it twice and the previous time I was laughing... hysterically. If I watch it a third time I'll probably end up in a straightjacket.
I love all of the MCU movies (slightly addicted), apart from Thor 3. His planet got destroyed, sister tried to kill him (and made him a cyclopse), his father died... but let's all laugh at the God of Thunder being bowled over by a rubber ball. It tried to be "Guardians of the Galaxy", but without the nuances, the humour, the subtlety and the charm. Hell, Bruce Banner has 7 PhDs and yet he had a petted lip about him not being friends with Thor. I mean... wtf? It's excruciating.
Of course I have. Some Kind of Wonderful is one of my favorites. Chinese food and "wine" solves ass kicking problems! I agree though. I'm already cool Oh. I'm not fan of magical zombies
"Some kind of wonderful"? Meh. It was ok. "Say Anything" is a billion times better. And well done, you just mentioned John Hughes's worst movie. It does... especially when that "wine" just so happened to be blood of a Vampire. You're already cool? You hide it well. No? You think casting a spell to reanimated a dead corpse is less cool than blood disease? How long have you been crazy. The whole "disease" of being a zombie or a vampire is too close to real life events, like, covid. Give me fiction every time.
I did not! That movie was good. Besides even if it is, I still like it. I've been a fan of zombies for years. I don't know I just prefer the old fashion way I guess.
It was good, the guy in it kinda looks like a young David Boreanaz. I watched the "Re-animator" a few weeks ago. Have you seen it? Kinda like a cross between "Frankenstein" and a zombie movie. Also saw "Frankenhooker" which was hilarious You prefer the old fashioned way? Yes, MY way.
Yeah, it was years ago. I completely forgot about that one. I feel like not a lot of people seen it or didn't like it. I didn't even know Frankenhooker existed. All the ways but yours
The Source would never had been made if not for it's bad prequel mother called Endgame. All sorts of justifications the so called Highlander fans have for Connor's death. "Christoper Lambert was getting old, Connor had to make way for Duncan because the series world was better to continue the saga...,self-sacrifice was necessary". Fortunately I have eaten those who made those excuses for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
