Hello folks, My name's AP and I am new here. I wrote a couple short experimental pieces years ago (published in very small publications), while still in college. Then, I stopped writing for various reasons. As it's said these days, "life happened." A couple months ago and more than a decade since I wrote last, I got a sudden itch to get back to writing and began typing out short stories. I must say, I did not realize how much I missed the act of creating with language. I must admit -- I feel rather addicted to it now. I want to keep at it and share my writing with the world once again. I have been out of touch with writing circles, publishing industry, and all things related. My hope in joining this forum is to get back into that world. I would like to thank everyone in advance for any commentary, feedback, and advice you'll provide on my posts in the future. -AP
Howdy AP, I'm new here too, and I can definitely relate to life getting in the middle of this pleasurable activity. What are you planning on writing in the near future?
You know, I am very content with writing short stories right now. The unbiased critics in my life have been harping on me to write something longer. Perhaps, once a story long enough to be a novella or a novel comes around, I will write it. At this time, however, I like exploring the minutiae of short fiction, trying different perspectives and veering into different genres. What's your writing poison?
Right now I really feel in the mood to attempt to write a couple short stories that intersect with each other. I'm think the content of them will land somewhere within the broad circle of adventure, science-fantasy, and horror. Good on those around you identifying your talent and urging you onward.
AP, Glad you joined us, and got that writing itch back. Sometimes we forget about the things that once brought us a bit of joy. Terry
That's awesome! I haven't attempted horror and science-fantasy yet, but I definitely want to dab into those genres a bit as well as humorous fiction. Humorous prose is most daunting for me and I really want to crack it.
A comedian! Brilliant! Not nearly enough folks write with humour in mind (even though there's a bunch of silly weirdos around here.... me being one of them.) Even if you don't post any here, AP, with an avatar like that, I'm sure your stuff will be interesting. Welcome to the forums!
Hello and welcome to the forum A P! I'm Vanna, and I hope you can find what you are looking for here. Might I ask what form of writer you are and what is your preference for genre?
Hi Vanna! I do not have a preference for any specific genre, actually -- just short fiction. As I get back to writing, I am trying my hand at different types of short stories - right now, I am working on one with epistolary elements, for example. The one I finished before my epistolary venture was a Western in every sense, set in the modern desert. My main interest lies in humans and the relationships we build, regardless of plot and setting. Do you stick to a specific genre?
Thanks! I am excited to be here. Humor in prose is an absolute miracle in my eyes and I want to figure out a way to capture that magic in my own writing. That's my personal Everest.
Awesome! I stick mainly stick to fiction- mostly fantasy. I am also working on a short story and posted a piece of it if you would like to read. If you want to throw something my way I would gladly take it! But I will let you know that after tomorrow I most likely will be offline for a while, but like I said before, welcome and hope you find what you're looking for!
Yes! I'd love to read your creation -- I'll go snoop it out. Thank you kindly for offering to read mine. I'll be sure to post something soon.
I ended up posting quicker than I expected (in General Fiction)! Not a comedic piece by any stretch, but something I did just complete, dabbing into epistolary storytelling a bit.
