    Adult Content...

Discussion in 'Self-Publishing' started by Harrison Phillips, Sep 16, 2021.

    Hi all! :superhello:

When publishing a paperback through KDP, there is a question that asks something like - "Does this book feature adult content?"

I always click 'yes', as I write extreme horror - do I actually need to? What does this even do? And what happens if I click no?

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

I've never clicked it. So, I was told when setting up the ebook (I know you said paperback) that the age rating selection was an optional thing more useful for when you write middle grade/young adult. It helps get you in the right age categories and helps the readers of that find you. But that if you write 18+ content you don't HAVE to use it and so I don't. I've applied the same mindframe to the paperback set up and it's never given me issue but a lot of my stuff is already categorized in erotica so....*shrugs*

    Hey, thanks for the reply.

I never used the reading age on the ebook, but the paperback question is a lot more specific. I wonder if it does hide the books from certain people? Not that that's a problem - my books probably wouldn't be appropriate for those people anyway. I'm not sure how old you have to be to use Amazon...

I guess I'll stop using it, if it doesn't actually matter.
