    Stage II - New situation

Discussion in 'Plot Development' started by tontony, Sep 20, 2021.

Hi there. Hope not to be OT here (and sorry for my English, I'm Italian).
I have a question for anyone familiar with the Michael Hauge's Six Stage Plot Structure.
Is it possible to use the entire Stage II (New Situation, Act I) as a flashback that ends at the exact same point Stage I does (to be clear: use it as a sort of "recap", to explain how we get at the end of Stage I), and then move from there into Stage III, Act II?
I know... a bit twisted. Hope you get what I mean.
    Thanks for any little help.

    I've not heard of this.

You should write your story however you want. From what I've looked up about this structure I don't see why you would need to include such detailed flashbacks when there are clearly defined events at each stage of your story. If on the other hand this is hindering your writing, don't follow it too rigidly. ;)

Don't know if it is hindering, but the story is based on true events (I forgot to mention) and I need some of the events from the past of my two lead characters - before they meet - that will define their relationship. But I think you are right: write however you want.

Yes, in all cases. It's your story.
