I was banned for the seventh time so I said, "Enough" and deleted my account. I never got use from the site. You have to critique four or five chapters of other people's writing before you have enough "karma" to post your own chapter for critique. I'd rather write than spend my time critiquing. Also, I've written twelve books of material. It would take at least a decade to post it all on Scribophile.
I mean if you want critique then it's only fair that you give some yourself. That's how it works here. Plus it's a valuable skills that helps you develop your own writing. I've never used scribophile so maybe they're just awful generally, but the tit-for-tat thing is pretty par for the course
I agree the reciprocal nature is what keeps these forums alive. Otherwise you'd get people who wouldn't care about helping others and only care about helping themselves and they'd flood the forum. Writers can be assholes too.
In my experience, anyone who claims to have been unfairly banned due to "wokeness" or "cancel culture" was probably banned very fairly. Which is beside the point because OP didn't claim that.
we don't do the discussing other forums thing here... its what wrey used to call the what happened in vegas, stays in vegas rule... reason being that people are members of more than one forum, and so someone complains about another forum here, the other forum hears about it and we get a bunch of their members fussing and clucking about how nasty we were about forum x... then a load of our membership go there to get even... and so on ... its generally a big pain in the ass for both admin teams so just no - if you've got an issue with scribophile the place to complain about it is on a contact us to the scribophile admin,
