    Tell us about your Dreams

Discussion in 'The Lounge' started by ItzAmber, Oct 17, 2021.

The title probably explains it all. Just talk about your weirdest or scariest dreams when you slept. Any genre of dreams are okay.

In my dreams I'm beautiful. And bad.

In one of my dreams, I somehow can't breathe in there. I try to wake myself up then I woke up unable to breathe for a bit..until I managed to catch my breath. As if my dream is trying to kill me o_O ...I was afraid to sleep after that.

I have often wondered if dreams played a big part in who I am. I have had maybe no more than a handful of bad dreams in my entire life. In my dreams, I get the girl, kill the dragon and all the bad guys. I am the victor and the champion. I always wake up in a good mood and ready to tackle the world. For the person chased by the bear, who falls off the cliff only to wake up naked in front of their friends, does this affect their lives the way the good dream effect mine or does it not even play a part?

I am an optimist, always smiling, do the dreams reflect me or do I reflect the dreams?

You reflect the dreams. Your thoughts and memories are what made the dreams. Though most of the time, the dreams are kinda weird.

Recent dream: I was in a hotel with my family, somehow on the highest floor. There was lightning and thunder so me and my family talked about it. Then there was some dust on the window, I noticed it and look out the window. There was a tornado. So I paniced and told my mom about that, she was somehow confused about the word as if she hadn't heard of it. So I said ' Just look out of the window.' then the door opened and some people came in and urged us to escape. We were running so fast (that's normal in my dreams smh) then some guy said take a taxi and drive away. So we took one with a taxi driver that has small beads as his eyes--probably blind. He looked creepy- And I checked my phone, looking at the news and suddenly we arrived back. Andd I woke up.

I've been having what I can only call "House of Leaves" dreams since I was a kid. They're very unnerving. I really wish I would have been the one to commit that idea to paper.

I'll typically wander through the house looking at rooms filled with antiques and gizmos I've always wanted. At some point I'll descend. The stairs just keep dropping further and further down, through multiple levels filled with more junk. Expanses of darkened rooms branch off in all directions. It always gets darker as I go. As soon as I consider the fact that there's something else down there, I'll hear it start to move through the dark toward me. Then it's always a race for the stairs, which I may or may not find.

When I was very young, I saw this show on PBS about a wolf. A guy was reading a story and he sort of drew pictures of the story as he went. I don't know if it was Little Red Riding Hood, or whatever, I don't remember, but I do remember that wolf. It traumatized me, and I probably dreamt about that @#$ing wolf a couple thousand times at least. I kind of quit having dreams about it in my teen years, but I think the House of Leaves presence is some manifestation of it.

I still prefer nightmares to dreams about work. God, what a waste of sleep. My favorite dreams are when I wander a city and meet random people who are my friends.

I'd have to update this every 4 to 6 hours.
I've had amazingly vivid, detailed dreams for as long as I can remember. I would wake up and be angry that they were over, so I'd close my eyes and keep the story going in my head until I had characters and worlds I could never forget.
The most frightening nightmare I will never forget ended in a bright room. White walls, large windows with sunlight illuminating a small dog looking up at me. Sort of like a chihuahua. It sat a few feet in front of a wooden door that had an open window above it. A piece of paper gently floated through the open window and slowly fell to the floor beside the dog. I knew it was a message for me, but I was terrified of it. As I reached down the dog tilted it's head and watched me with huge, intelligent, black eyes. I read the three words, open the door, and my breath stopped. I ran and closed the window, then lowered all the other shades until the room was dark. I watched the door and waited. The dog trotted over to me and I knew IT was inside already when the dog's enormous eyes glowed red and it spoke to me, "silly girl'.

Have anyone experienced being in a lucid dream? Like the ones that you're aware that you're in a dream.

The moment you realize you're dreaming it's incredibly exciting, you know you can do just about anything you want and the rules of normal life don't apply in this world. Give me a little while and I'll post something from my dream journal.

    Here's one, from 2013:

"BOOM!" Said the man in the bedraggled bear suit.. And "Y U got a headache?"

I was walking through a school, in the principal's office area. The offices seemed to be in a small building that might have been a trailer. Didn't know how I had got here but for some reason I was looking for something (don't know what it was). Oh - I remember, there was a shop class nearby where I thought if I asked the teacher might give me a set of tires for my car that I badly needed - I had some kind of weird rail car that took very wide rear tires. But each room I walked through was just another old desk sitting on worn out carpet with this long grey runner leading through them all, and each time there was a large friendly-looking fat woman sitting at another desk either taking a call quietly or shuffling papers. They all seemed very friendly and didn't mind that I was walking through - it seemed to be either a high school or grade school and I seemed to be an adult, it struck me as a bit odd that I was here and I think this started to get me close to lucidity.

Now I noticed the floor was sloping pretty steeply in one direction - this is something I see sometimes in dreams for some reason. It made me start to get an almost smug feeling inside that was a precursor to lucidity - I knew nobody could hurt me here even though I was in the very den of authoritarianism itself.

Then I stepped through into the wrong office - it seemed to be the principal himself - not what I wanted, and I immediately tried to turn around and get back to where the friendly overweight women had been smiling at me but the short balding principal with acne scars ravaging his face stood up and confronted me abruptly, asking me what I was doing here. So I told him I was looking for a shop class where I was hoping I might get tires for my car. He was annoyed and said "You mean you want them to GIVE you tires?", as if people ask this all the time and he doesn't like it. I wasn't going to let him get all authoritarian with me though, said "you know what, screw it." and turned to walk back out. "I'm not gonna stand here and listen to your lecture - if the answer is no then just say no. Geeze."

And I walked out and saw a huge picture window, outside of which was a big swingset with a massive bear swinging on it - not sitting on a swing but just hanging by his front paws from the bar and swinging back and forth as if enjoying himself.

I instantly knew it was a dream, but somehow fell just short of what I would call full lucidity. I did know however that I could now fly right out through the glass as if it wasn't even there and straight toward the bear and the thought filled me with joy. But I wanted somebody to witness it. A moment ago there had been a young man standing there gawking out the window at the bear beside me but he was gone now, so I turned around to find somebody. Across the very long room was a tall slender man wearing a bedraggled bear suit who was posturing like a mime. Bears are my biggest dream sign by the way. I actually laughed out loud and started running toward him and launched myself into the air, flying over a long fake wood table. The man in the bear suit seemed to mimic or reflect my joy and excitement with mime-like gestures and had a huge ridiculous grin on his full-head bear mask.

For some reason I picked up something off the table and threw it at him - this seemed like the thing to do. I think it was an old fashioned telephone with a horn you talk into and an earpiece. As I threw it I said "Boom!" and he immediately and excitedly repeated it in a Bobcat Goldthwaite voice. Then he tilted his head at me and, still in the Bobcat Goldthwaite voice and in tones of infinite concern he said "Y U got a headache?"

I did have headache - I sort of have one all the time because I need to get to the dentist.

It's also an important step toward developing lucidity if you want to do that. Writing your dreams down makes you focus your attention on them more, and that's the first step.

In those days I was hanging out on a message board called Dreamviews, where I learned how to get lucid. There's a section for keeping a dream journal, in fact that's why they call it Dreamviews, because we read each others dreams. Also important was an amazing book called Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming by Stephen LaBerge.

I think I did have a lucid dream, but i kinda forgot most of it. I only remember the last parts where i wanted to wake up and me saying 'I'll have to wake up now.' to my mother in the dream. Then I said 'Good-bye, dream mother.'. That's what makes me think it was a lucid dream. But the real question is: What makes us aware that we are in a dream? What even are dreams and nightmares?

I also have a hack on how to wake yourself up from dreams, first, close your eyes and think of waking, then you'll fall into a sleep then waking up with your vision a bit blurry. Like black to focus, idk. It works most of the time, I tried that once and i couldn't wake up. I was terrified so I keep on thinking 'WAKE UP...WAKE UP!' to myself while running (I was having a zombie apocalypse dream lol). Another thing to do is just let the monster (or zombie) to kill and eat you. It'll wake you up--unless you don't like getting eaten.

That's entirely possible. I had several when I was a young teenager, it's actually pretty common around that age for some reason, without even trying. They're called natural lucid dreams.Years later, when I learned what they were called and that you can achieve it through effort, I found Dreamviews and learned how to do it.
Apparently when dreaming it's mostly the unconscious mind in control, but there's still some spark of conscious awareness involved, or we probably wouldn't remember the dreams. And if you train yourself to pay attention, you can learn to notice certain things. I mentioned that bears are my biggest dream sign—a dream sign is something that shows up a lot in your dreams but not usually in your waking life, so when you see it you're probably dreaming. You can train your mind to notice when you see it and then you'll become lucid. There are no bears anywhere near where I live, so if I see one (and I'm not at the zoo) I know I'm dreaming.

By a quick google search, I found out that lucid nightmares are possible, have you experienced that? Sounds horrifying.

Not really. I did have a rather unpleasant lucid dream though. It was my only high level lucid, where I was far more aware than in all the other lucids. I might be able to find that one, hold on.

Well, I can't find it, sorry. I might try to reconstruct it from memory tomorrow. But one thing I want to say about lucid nightmares (without having experienced one myself) is that when you're lucid you know nothing can hurt you, because you know it's a dream. In fact, when you've become lucid many times you sort of know that in all your dreams, even when you're not lucid.
