I make fence, which nobody needs and is one of the things that you spend money on when you ran out of other things to spend it on. I have a good corner on the market, there are no other custom fence makers within a couple hundred miles of me. Half of my stuff goes out of state. The fire wood I sell by the truckload, and I am today 31 loads behind. I own enough standing timber to keep me going for the next 4 years. While others invested in stocks, I bought land and timber, the value of the standing timber has more than doubled in value with rise in construction materials, so I made out really well with that, but I suffer the same problems you do with labor. The price of fuel going up lets me charge more than the actual cost of delivering the final product. I have always tried to have different businesses that peak at different times of the year, and tend to thrive on either a bad or a good economy. This is the first time in 40 plus years that both business models thrived at the same time. I have everything but a stable supply of labor.
Celebrating 44 years of marriage to my high school sweetheart. Life has been good to me and my family.
As I was leaving city hall today, there was a buskers outside singing They Might Be Giants' "Dead" and accompanying himself on a ukulele. Totally made my day—and his, when I recognized it.
August 23rd was our twentieth anniversary. I still keep the Olive Garden receipt from our first date in my wallet.
Voting at 6:45am is the best. There’s no one there and the donuts are still fresh. I was in and out in under 10 minutes.
Our dog Henry had a bump on his side. Though he was alright otherwise (you wouldn't guess that he is already ten), I was very worried. Today he had an appointment at the vet, and the bump turned out to be a harmless lipoma (the vet punctured it). I'm so relieved, although the visit itself was somewhat awkward. Not because anything bad happened to Henry. But he hates the waiting room and starts to howl as soon as we sit down. Do you know the YouTube videos of Huskys at the dog saloon? If so, you get the picture (and he isn't even a Husky). But hey, if I have to be the lady with the crazy loud dog, so be it. At least he is healthy. That's all that matters .
If you're talking about the Jersey and Virginia elections, those went in quite an interesting direction. I could use some donuts.
Jersey is going to be the stolen election conspiracy theory part two before they’re done. The part that cracks me up is the furniture store truck driver taking over president of the senate. Supposedly he spent $153 to run in the primary, and less than $10,000 overall.
Polls don't open here until 7. I worked as an election judge for more than a decade. It's a small district in a state with a small population and usually at least one of the judges recognized voters as they arrived. When I went on Tuesday, I knew one of the acting judges by sight and one other by thirty-plus years of friendship. A former governor/ambassador to Ireland lives in the district and is known as Mike to everyone. He and his wife went to a governor's convention years ago and when she tried to check into the hotel, the desk attendant thought she was lying to him because she had no entourage. She had to go get one of the other first ladies to convince the guy she was who she said she was.
it feels good to connect with guests over books a guest came in (an older lady) who seemed really embarrassed as she approached me and says "i like weird stuff... books people dont really read. could you help me?" and i asked her what that was and drops her voice and says "like gross stuff. true crimes, books on murderers. odd ball science," and i clapped my hands together and said "you came to the right person!!" we talked for about 35 mins about odd ball science stuff like All The Gory Details and The Icepick Surgeon and even other genres that we've read and liked/didnt like. someone at some point in her life must have called her weird or disgusting for her interest in those kind of books and its quite sad. she has a kindred spirit in me!
Had a really gorgeous abstract about the sky, land and sea a few days ago. Saw my mum recently (chrissie hinde type blonde), we're gonna have a marshmallow night; in her mummy lawl!
I'm going to bed, so this Monday is officially over. I've dreaded this day for almost a week for various more oder less silly reasons. In the end I did everything I was suposed to do, and nothing was as dreadful as I'd thought. Good Night, everyone!
HOOOOOOLY SHIT! I just had an offer accepted for a condo. (no longer whining about rental prices in my area.. will move onto whining about mortgages, HOA fees, and property taxes)
Don’t forget to whine about the HOA covenants. Wait till you realize all the rules you have to follow.
