I'm close enough friends with a family in town that we exchange Christmas gifts. The youngest daughter is ten years old, and she has been on a dragon kick. I want to get her a dragon book for Christmas but, when I asked her parents for recommendations, the response was, "She's read them all." I considered writing one (and, in fact, I have begun), but there's no way it'll be ready in time for Christmas 2021. Has anyone here written a book about or featuring dragons that would be suitable for a 10-year old girl? They are evangelical Christians, so it needs to be at least PG-13, if not squeaky clean. Definitely no erotica. The girl is precociously bright, so the book doesn't have to be written as a "children's" book. If you have written something that would be suitable, please post a link to where I can buy it. Thanks.
Patricia Wrede’s book “Dealing with Dragons” is a great choice, imo. https://sffbookreview.wordpress.com/2016/09/30/patricia-c-wrede-dealing-with-dragons/
Penguin just released a new dragon anthology book called The Penguin Book of Dragons (Oct 12, 2021) then there is a YA dragon anthology book that may be a bit safer as its clearly YA and the Penguin dragon book is more general. The authors in this anthology are known YA fantasy writers, too The Book of Dragons (2020)
Dragonflight - Anne McCaffrey The Last of the Dragons and Some Others - E.Nesbit Sir Bertie & The Wyvern - Nicholas Wilde Flight of Dragons - Peter Dickinson The Dragon and the George - Gordon R. Dickson < too old? The Dragon Machine - Helen Ward < too young
To reiterate from my original post: Thanks for the suggestions so far, but when her mother said "she's read them all," I don't think she was kidding. The kid has read a prodigious number of dragon books. I'm not asking for recommendations for dragon books by established authors (such as Anne McCaffrey -- Anne is one of my favorite authors, but I happen to know that the kid has discovered her and is currently reading one of the Pern novels, with another waiting in the wings), I'm looking for books that she won't have been likely to find on her own. I need books by new or emerging authors. Also, need paperback, not e-books. I should have specified that at the outset.
Blazewrath Games (2020) by Amparo Ortiz (debut author and debut book). Fire With Fire (2021) by Destiny Soria I'm suggesting it because both authors are people of color. There are not a lot of dragon fantasy writers of color, so really, she might NOT have come across these
