Hey there, I'm writing a main character who could be considered a bit of a fop with a big ego with a preference for colourful clothing. He's a 19 year old male with a deep fascination for historical history and it reflects in his fashion sense. Thing is, I'm pretty bad with fashion. Any suggestions on what his wardrobe and outfits could consist of?
You can find plenty of references online for folks who enjoy wearing clothing inspired by history. You can start here: https://www.theguardian.com/fashion/2019/jul/04/i-dont-see-jeans-in-my-future-the-people-who-wear-complete-historical-dress-every-day
Ah, that article about Zack Pinsent. I don't even need to click the link... Zack actually has a youtube channel, although there is not that much content in it. You can also find a bit of info about 19th century male fashion in this nice video. And of course there is the fad that is called "Werther fashion", after Goethe's drama "Die Leiden des jungen Werther" set in the second half of the 18th century. Werther wore a ridiculous outfit consisting of a blue tailcoat with brass buttons (probably a justaucorps, given the time it is set in), a yellow vest (aka waistcoat), brown cuff boots, breeches of yellow leather and a round, grey felt hat. Guess that's very colourful. Edit: You can go to Pinterest and search for "19th century male fashion" there. There you may find something that appeals to you. You can also just use it as inspiration and change things about it (like the colours). If you need help finding the correct names for the clothing articles, you can ask us again.
