evidences Not a new word exactly, but I always thought "evidences" was incorrect. Apparently, it's used in academia, as in "evidences for the existence of Troy".
I have a friend, for whom English is a third language, who often uses "evidences" as a plural noun. I have always thought that this is incorrect. In the noun form, "evidence" is a collective noun (i.e. "... a preponderance of evidence"). "Evidences" is a verb form, meaning "displays," or "demonstrates." I never knew there were exceptions. https://www.wordhippo.com/what-is/the-plural-of/evidence.html https://thegrammarexchange.infopop.cc/topic/evidence-in-plural-form I'm going to continue to use "evidence" as a collective noun and call it a day.
LOL, reminds me of things I see all over the internet where people say "I have some advices for you." I usually assume they're using English as a second language, but it's possible they're just not well educated on these matters. Functional illiteracy is on a massive upswing these days. ^ THIS
