Looking at the D2D web site, they now say they publish both e-books and print-on-demand books, so I guess the PoD service has emerged from the beta testing phase. https://draft2digital.com/faq/#how-much-does-draft2digital-cost Has anyone used their PoD service? I'd like to know how the quality of their printed books compares with Amazon and Barnes & Noble Press.
Update: I just submitted a new book to D2D for distribution. Print is now definitely an available option, along with e-books. Unfortunately for me, the new book is non-fiction (a "how-to" book) and it includes several color illustrations. I can offer it in color through both Amazon KDP and Barnes & Noble Press, but D2D does not offer color printing. I contacted them, and they replied that they have no plans at this time to offer color print as an option.
Sadly, I'm seeing that print on demand is in the beta phase still through Draft2Digital when I go to "My books" tab when I click "print" and I get the "I want to learn more about D2D print" button, which put me on a waiting list.
Update: I had uploaded two books to Draft2Digital for print-on-demand. I have just had to delist both books. The reason? Both are already offered through Amazon and Barnes & Noble. Unlike when you set up a digital book on D2D, when you set up a print book they do NOT offer you an opportunity to select (or de-select, as the case may be) which outlets you wish them to distribute to/through. I submitted an inquiry asking why not, and I received an answer this afternoon: The part about requiring a second ISBN makes no sense to me, since I purchased my own ISBNs from R.R. Bowker, I didn't use an ISBN provided by Amazon. But I don't see any sense whatsoever in having two versions of the same book fighting it out on Amazon (or on Barnes & Noble), so I have gone back to D2D and delisted the print versions of both books. The comment about "our Print Distribution Partner" seems to support big soft moose's conjecture that D2D uses IngramSpark as their printer. I wonder how that might play out as they complete the merger with SmashWords.
