Ye, that’s interesting. Those photos I attached were from the same source (i.e. the national geographic).
Honestly the world might be a better place if we pumped all the humans full of cola, sprayed them with DDT, and smothered them in cellophane. Kind of funny that all of them take the salubrious approach to marketing, which suggests that they were comparing themselves to other products that were unhealthy, which further suggests that 1950s naivete was at least partially corrupted by the possibility of danger. Maybe it was polio and influenza?
I always really liked these kinds of paintings. There's something really refreshingly simple and elegant about them. Chinese art in general is something I wish I had more knowledge of.
Happy World Book Day. This, my friends, is a library: Tianjin Binhai New Area Library in Tianjin, China
^^^ I could gladly lose myself in a place like that. JT Woody is a Librarian - I wonder what she would make of this place.
How do you get to the high books? How do you even see what they are? Must have some really weird Dr. Seuss-style ladders...
^^ almost had a mini heartattack just looking at the picture! i had to google.... the books on the wall and ceiling shelves are fake. the actual books are spine labeled and area coded on regular (yet still artfully designed) bookshelves. its super loud there, though. i could tell based on the uncarpeted floor and open space. the video proves it. Kind of reminds me of the Minneapolis library. Washington DC revamped the MLK library branch to be open like this too. -sighs- all the cool libraries are never hiring
Yeah, I disliked that massive echoey space on sight. I don't like big open airportlike spaces, I prefer my bookstores and libraries to look like this: Cozy and comfortable, all available spaces stacked or piled with books, as if the entire room is made of them.
here’s my latest library photo. It was written in 1935. I flipped it open to a random page and the author was like, "unfortunately the Bierhall Putsch was a failure--here's what Hitler should have done differently." Insane shit.
