Haha, yeah. Seems like a reminder might be in order. Dinner can be tough to dial in if you don't have a routine and backup plans in place, which it sounds like you have. The fact that he ate the leftovers and left you hanging isn't cool.
I generally finish work before Mrs. A so cooking is usually my job. If I'm wiped out, I just text her to meet me in town and we go out, there are a number of joints that are as cheap as going to the supermarket as long as you drink tea and not booze. It's not like when I was growing up and once my dad left the office he was incommunicado for an hour and a half.
One of my hens has become an egg eater. Yesterday the egg she opened even had a nearly fully-developed chic in it, so she can't be allowed around brooding hens either. Time to sharpen the axe, because this hen simply has to go.
First property I put an offer on - out bid Second - biding war.........outbid Third - Had an open house on Sunday and then promptly decided they weren't taking offers until the next Sunday. Offer was sent on the same open house day... Since when was this difficult? I got my first house on the first offer sent. The only offer sent anywhere. And for under value. Seriously, this is getting old. I just want a nice cabin and then be done with it. Seriously considering finding land and developing instead.
From what I’ve read that sounds about right (wrong). Very hot market. I hear all these stories of people placing cash offers on properties 20% above asking price and waving all inspections… I think a lot of properties are getting bought up by large corporations like Blackrock personally. The question is, will property prices keep inflating and double over the decade, or will we finally see a drop in the housing market as the Fed raises rates. Mortgage rates are going up pretty quickly. This should lead to a decrease in damage and decrease in prices, or at least reducing these outrageous bidding/buying wars. A nice cabin sounds absolutely wonderful. I hope to have one that’s pretty isolated in nature myself one day. Best of luck.
That, unfortunately, is the crux of the issue. Unless you were deliberately insulting, there is no reason AT ALL for a manager to feel "disrespected." As for embarrassed? Well, having been a manager, I can honestly say that if one of my staff had pointed out that something under my control wasn't working because I failed to control it -- yes, I would be embarrassed. And I should be embarrassed -- and I should give that employee a gift certificate to take his/her significant other to dinner at their favorite restaurant. Unfortunately, some people have the attitude that they are perfect and infallible, so any opinion that differs from their preconceived notions of HOW THINGS SHOULD BE is automatically received as a personal attack. That's the sure sign of a small mind living inside a [spiritually] small person.
Unhappy? That's me right now. About three weeks ago I woke up to considerable pain in my right thumb. The bext way to describe it is to say that it felt a lot like when I would jam a knuckle playing softball -- except that pulling on it didn't un-jam it, that just made it hurt worse. It has calmed down a bit, so it's not painful all the time now, but I can't do may routine things with the right hand -- and I'm right handed. I finally decided that it must be arthritis and that I would have to learn to live with it. And then yesterday I awoke to excruciating pain in my right foot -- which only got worse as the day progressed. I can't put any weight on the firward-inside of the foot (basically, under the big toe). I went to see a doctor at the veterans' hospital, and the diagnosis is: GOUT! Dammit -- in my mind, I'm too young to have gout. And I have too much to do to be laid up with it, even for a short time. Apparently my body disagrees with my mind on the "I'm too young" part ...
Agreed. That's the difference between a manager and a boss. Lots of managers out there, but very few bosses.
More good news ... After returning from the hospital, I started to wash dishes and noticed that the water was only warm, not too hot to touch. And the house felt chilly. The boiler won't fire and there's water on the basement floor. That's probably not a good sign.
I am now the ordering librarian for the non-fiction collection.... IN ADDITION TO genre fiction..... Foreign language.... And special collections.... Guess how many other ordering librarians there are? (Hint: more than just me.....) (ETA. im trying to stay optimistic.... But then i was annoyed.... Now im kinda upset. I do THE MOST here....)
I've found it's sadly but undeniably true that people who are good at their jobs only ever get punished for it.
Production worker here. YES. Bonus is when you get accused of receiving special treatment. Also smokers technically get paid more/hr by virtue of the tobacco pacifier and you have to like it.
It's so very true. Many memes on the topic. It was getting so ridiculous at my job that I fought to get a "task transparency" google sheet created for the team. Who gets the next X regardless of the difficulty grade? Guess what, there's this handy list right here where we go in order, instead of piling all the worst shit on the best worker(s). It's luck of the draw, now. Highly recommend it. Feels like I am doing a third less work than I was doing before. One other bad thing about competence - this can actually prevent you from being promoted. If you become too essential to your role, you may end up stuck in that role for a long, long time. In celebration of May (Day), workers owe it to themselves to do a quick job search. Do it. You might be surprised to find that you are qualified to fill positions that are paying $15-25K more per year. It's the Great Resignation, after all. Workers of the World Unite !
Having managed to avoid it for nearly three years, I have just tested positive for Covid. I'm vaccinated up, but feel a little achey and sniffly.
Once again, the movies I want to watch are on channels I don’t get. May as well go get something productive done before the wife gets home.
