Most usb keyboards are plug and play with windows and Mac so install shouldn’t be necessary

also you should be able to type an r by hitting the space where the key used to be wit something hard like the blunt end of a biro

Ill see about the keyboard (there are tons of spare ones at work... Ill ask to borrow one)

The key is still there. It didnt fall off or wasnt pulled up yet. I can press it as hard as i want but nothing happens. I thought maybe it had gotten wet, because i have a keypad covering and when i pulled the covering up, it was moist underneath. Idk how that happened.
I got the covering when i got my computer because i DIDNT want gunk to mess up the keyes

Funny thing is... I queried an agent a few days before my computer went on strike. One of the "fun" questions the form asked was if i could bring anything with me to space, what would it be. I said my laptop, because as long as i can read, write, and design, i'd be fine....

Does your laptop have a numeric keypad (or keys that work as the numeric keypad)? If so, you can generate an 'R' character by pressing ALT and typing 82 (for upper case) or 114 for lower case.

It's really going around. It just went through about half of my extended family, including in this house.

    Hope you're keeping comfortable.

Humidex was freaking 41C yesterday, and it's hit the same mark today. Just a weekend of hiding out in the bedroom where the A/C is. A good excuse to get some work done, as well as some reading, anyway !

Yeah, high five for hiding in the bedroom! I work that window unit hard. Sometimes I turn on my oven exhaust to help with flow through the house. Not sure how much a difference it makes.

One day each of us will have central AC, and that will warrant... I don't know, TWO high fives.

Taking a 3 week course where my final is a 3 page (double spaced), 5 source paper on a complicated topic.

I am 1 paragraph over the page limit and dont know how to cut it back any further than it already is.

    Uuuuugh!
There isnt enough room to summarize 5 sources (as what was requested) and show understanding, not just quoting text.

I am reminded once again how much i hate writing essays...

ETA: i deleted my intro paragraph and just jumped right into the readings

Not my best work, but it is what it is :nosleep:

They've stabbed Salman Rushdie. It sounds bad, I pray he makes it.

"New York Governor Kathy Hochul told reporters Mr Rushdie was “alive” and “getting the care he needs” at a press conference at around 12.30pm."

Dang, my wife just started The Moor's Last Sigh, which of course caused me to tell her (to her great annoyance) how after that one she's got to read The Satanic Verses and especially Midnight's Children.

Of course I tell everyone that, any time Rushdie comes up...

The upside is the bad guy only had about 20 seconds to work. Almost as soon as he began, state troopers and six or seven event attendees pounced on the guy. He’s in custody.(a little bruised and roughed up, but in custody.)

Last I checked, Rushdie was still in surgery- he was stabbed several times between his neck and waist. The attacker is a 24 year old out of New Jersey. Nobody is ‘fessing up to an ‘official’ motive, but the attacker’s social media postings seem to indicate sympathy for some Shi’a extremists in Iran, and those guys are still upset about Rushdie’s book The Satanic Verses.

I just thought of that approach, and I'm happy to see that someone beat me to it and that it worked.

Next step, I suppose, is to try to fix your recalcitrant key. I tried searching YouTube, and I was astonished at how many videos I found that claim to address this issue ... but don't. This is the best I was able to find, and it still doesn't go into what to do if the problem isn't just some random gunk under the key. But it's a start:

    My leg keeps falling off.

The hot weather has made the foam on the socket go soft, so it's not quite holding it on properly.

Take a look on amazon for some extra foam to make some foam shims. Not an ideal solution, but it might help long enough for things to get back to normal.

    The MacGuyver solution.

The weather is much cooler today, so I'm hoping it'll fix the problem.

I grabbed a road weary, battle scared, slightly grouchy neighborhood stray cat this morning for trap-neuter-release, now they’re talking about needing to euthanize him because he’s FIV positive. It was just supposed to be getting him neutered so he’d stop making so many road weary kittens.

    Anyone need a barn cat?

Speaking from the perspective of a life-long cat lover, IMHO both that cat and the world would be far better if you allow them to euthanize him. Otherwise you're just going to spread the disease.
