On this one, I like the piano. Makes me what to drink an Old fashioned. I miss old Opeth. I liked the way they built the music in slow swells and how the clean singing switched to death vocals. It worked perfectly. One of my favorite Loomis tracks. Especially that part where when the guitars start those real fast arpeggios in accompaniment. Sounds very baroque. You'll know it when you hear it. Fats had some great original songs, but he was an expert at rewriting tunes from the day. This one is from Hoagie Carmichael. Fats rewrote a lot of Hoagie's songs. "Let's burn up this room." I get it. That's my favorite line, haha.
Last post reminded me of this song, which, while also somewhat avant-garde, is much more tolerable: The way her voice changes around 00:51 really surprised me, and I thought it was some effect only possible in the studio, but I've seen live videos where she does it too. It's a shame she (probably) never performed with Klaus Nomi.
Hey! Those are actual songs. That's cheating ! I only recently was exposed to Siousxie and the Banshees as I've been going through the "1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die" thing over the past few months. This song doesn't sound like anything like I heard from the two records I've gotten through so far. Looks like it's much, much later, but I did still enjoy it.
Gentle on My Mind was one of my favorite albums when I was in junior high and high school, and I think I still have the original down in the music room. I loved the song Mary in the Morning. Glen Campbell had mad crazy guitar skills. I saw him do a duet with Roy Clark one time. People throw babies in the air over performances like that.
