Just curious. They have a forum, and I'd rather not be a part of another forum when I can chat with you guys on here Round 1 completed and submitted!
Hmm. I screwed up somewhere because I didn't get anything like that. (Goes to check.) Sigh. I'm an idiot. Erase everything I've contributed to this thread; I was submitting to a different place. Somedays I should just stay in bed with the covers pulled over my head.
I went for it! At first the prompts filled me with dread, but then things started to click. Glad I did it! It knocked me out of my comfort zone and after submitting I’m feeling all kinds of positive inertia to keep pouring energy into my writing and its trappings like improving my website, etc.
I lucked out that I had a genre that i actually write in Although the "call to arms" subject did kind of throw me a bit!
I got science fiction. I've barely read any let alone written it. I liked the challenge though. Fantasy would have been almost just as challenging. Subject was infomercial, and character was deadbeat. I had to stare into space in a quiet room for a solid hour to conjure up a cohesive idea that included all elements and then it was smooth sailing as far as getting it done, and giving it countless passes to trim this, reword that. I am finding the experience to be extremely valuable already.
It was def fun! Quite the posting frenzy goin on over there right now! A truly overwhelming number of stories. Where to even begin to give feedback? You gonna post? I want to, but I feel like I'm on the edge of the dance floor, and need a couple drinks first. Thank God dry January is almost over!
I didnt think we were supposed to until we were given the go ahead? I dont think im going to post. If i want to submit it elsewhere, doesnt it hurt my chances if i post to a forum? (Which is why i have t posted anything i want to submit here in this forum)
Are you reading the ones in your group? Id want to read my groups to see how mine compares (and if i have a chance at moving on)
That's the same reason I've never posted anything in the forum or anywhere online too. Some people have debated this, but, personally, I don't think it's worth the risk, especially when it comes to the short story market. I've also been told by faculty in my MFA program that having work online even someplace like this where you have to be a member to read people's work would still count as "published" and take away first publishing rights which is what you're trying to sell if it's not a reprint. After the thesis defenses our works were sent to enter a scholarly nationwide database with other theses and dissertations. We were granted embargoes for this because even that, and even if the stories were revised following this, it would still wipe out first publishing rights. I think it's better the err on the side of caution if you are trying to or plan to try and sell the work in question.
I should have tried that. I can always get out of the slush pile. Man that's a huge contest. Biggest one I ever tried was 2000 entries. 6000 is just crazy.
The e-mail that came early Tuesday was the “go ahead.” No one in my group has posted either. And certainly it’s only fair to expect crits if you give them, and I just have zero time to devote to that until the weekend…so that’s when I’ll likely post…after a couple of stiff vodka rocks
You must be in an earlier group..... I havent gotten an email That also must be why my group hasnt posted. Ours probably hasnt been read/reviewed yet
Gotta admit this is puzzling. I really thought they were sending that confirmation to everyone at once, 72 hours after the submission deadline. For what it's worth, no one in my group has posted either, but I did receive the confirmation.
Ah, good! Glad you got it sorted. Anyway...gonna post mine...and if you have trouble getting crits on yours...you can count on me. I feel like we got a nice little life raft here.
Nope. Ive been without a laptop for a while now. Just got a temporary one yesterday I havent been on that forum since we last spoke
