I have a centuries old character who refused to pass on into the after life. Before he was murdered, he and his lover had a baby. After he was murdered, she fled. He never saw them again. Never knew what happened to them. He couldnt find them. They were just gone. Centuries later, he meets a descendant. He recognizes her almost immediately as being someone from his line and is fond of her... Only, I dont know what to call her. His granddaugter? His daughter X times removed? "Child"?
If she is a direct descendant, she'd be a multi-great granddaughter. For simplicity and affection sake, he could just call her Granddaughter. The term "removed" has a specific meaning and wouldn't be appropriate for a direct descendant.
You could say she's a part of his lineage or his familial line, but that's just about the same as descendent. It's pretty generic. But if he has some 'sense' that tells him she's descemnded from his line, that might be the way to go.
I'm reading this thread, seeing the suggestions, thinking about how unprecedented this scenario would be, and it reminds me of a scene from Demolition Man - it's been so long since they've had a murder that they forgot what to call it, and so they report it as a "murder-death-kill". Sounds silly, but consider going that route here? Combine words. Progeny-kin. Far-child. Two suggestions that come to mind and both give off different levels of a fantasy vibe. I'd use the first one if you're going more grounded, if you're going more abstract then the second one would be cool.
