I might be imagining it from back in the day. Or maybe I was really high and thought it was a Burger King. Or a Walmart.
I remember the McDonalds in the Meijer and we always begged for fries when we were kids. Now I think the standard is a Starbucks in just about any supermarket or Target. -- I'm about to start a writing session and I've been playing some classical music for the last few hours and it's been such a joyful time.
On this side of the pond Tescos used to have their own cafes then they started having Costa's inside the bigger ones
My company just looked into opening a restaurant in the airport. $1 million up front cash investment and 30% of gross sales as "rent." It was a quick meeting. It would have been packed around the clock everyday, but 6-7 years just to pay off the initial investment ain't happening. Got enough debt service already.
I just found out that most "local flavor" restaurants in airports are set up and maybe supplied by the local restaurant, but after that they are run by a third party that operates airport restaurants across the country.
And as a restaurant operator I can 100% see why that would be attractive. I can get to any of my joints within 10 mins if I need to, but having to park and clear security at an airport? No thanks.
Dithering over signing up for the big annual Pennwriters Conference, right now, before I close the laptop and go to bed. Oh, I want to go. Been intending to since December. Only, they have this thing on the Friday night called Read & Critique, where published (trad published) authors, agents, etc., read and critique the first chapter of your work in progress. I've done it before, and while harrowing, it's a big help. I'd like to do it this year, only I don't have a first chapter for my next novel, I don't have a full synopsis, I only have an idea. But you have to sign up for the R&C along with your registration. I'll think about it and get back to it tomorrow. Or rather, later today. The early registration discount ends on Friday, so I can't dither too long.
Drinking tea and smelling faintly of a cigar I smoked over lunch. One of my cases has taken a bit of an interesting turn and my little office has been full of people all day.
Coffee. Giant Puppy on the ottoman at my feet. Waiting for my granddaughter to wake up and electrify the houehold with toddler giggles.
Just picked up my kids from the theatre. They're in a dance show that's on until this weekend. My daughter is an old hand at this, but it's my son's first one; he took up tap and ballet after watching last year's. He was so impressed by a tap act that he went home and found old clips of Fred Astaire etc. on YouTube. He wanted a top hat and came for his birthday, but we went one further and enrolled him in the school. I'm looking forward to seeing them both when I go and watch on closing night.
I'd love to, but the little icon above requires a URL and I don't belong to photo sharing service. The Giant Puppy is now 18 months old and well over 100 pounds. We don't know how much over since my son is the only person strong enough to pick TGP up and their combined weight won't register on our scale. TGP hit 100 pounds well before his first birthday. We saw both parents and expected TGP to be their size, about 75-80 pounds. Found out later that DogDad was a teenaged father and now weighs 120+. He's half black lab, half Great Pyrenees. DogMom is pure black lab.
I'm sure we've talked about this before you can put images directly on our server by using the upload a file button at bottom right (you'll need to resize if the picture is bigger than 500kb)
Imgur lets you upload images without an account, and you can set them to private so only URLs can access them. That's what I do with forums that have image limits. But you can upload directly too. JPEG is a great image format in terms of compression. You can get pretty small images with it. PNG, in contrast, tends to be pretty big because it's a lossless format. That's why so many cameras use it.
