I will soon self publish a book on amazon. I am considering applying copyright registration for it (I know it is optional but just to better protect myself). I will register right before I publish, and then I will upload to amazon and publish. Do people usually do prior to or after publishing registration? if you did it how did you do ? Also can I attach front and back cover pages as the first and last pages of my book pdf file? or I must exclude the cover pages? How about illustrations and photos? My book has some in it (all created by me). Are they covered in the same application because they are within the book? Or separate application is needed for them?
your book is copyright as soon as you write it (or take it in the case of photos), if you are in the US (or a non national selling in the US) it is worth registering the copyright as some forms of litigation are closed to you if you don't. In the UK there's no such thing as official registration of copyright and the companies that purport to do it are not private not governmental and basically just taking your money other countries mileage may vary
I registered both my books a week or so after they were available on Amazon. Not sure if doing it that way, or before it's available, is "better." I don't recall if there's an option to upload .pdfs on the site, it's been a couple years since I was there.
